Magma Boss Garnet

This is a version of Brendan/Ruby (moreso based on Pokespe Ruby) from an alternate timeline where he's usurped Maxie as the boss of Team Magma, after joining by Courtney's coercion, and taken on the name Garnet.

Full backstory:

Trapped in the caverns after a cave-in, fire surrounding him and no obvious sign of escape, Ruby was essentially forced by Courtney into joining Team Magma, no other choice available to him. In retaliation Ruby would go on to force himself up in the ranks of Team Magma, eventually usurping Maxie as the Team’s Boss in a final act of rebellion. Originally he intended to disband Magma during his reign as Boss, but Ruby found his love for feeling in charge overrode all else.

Now calling himself Garnet, he became drunk with power and decided to reshape Team Magma into a Team of his own design. Changing the name to Team Magma Alpha (or, stylized as Team Mαgmα), and reconstructing the Team from the ground up to make it fully to his liking. The newly written goal of Magma Alpha, now, is the goal to make the world beautiful again by expanding it with Groudon’s powers… essentially the same as before but with different wording. The worst part is Garnet INSISTS it’s completely different. He’s so engrossed in and obsessed with his ideas of a perfect world, and so deep inside his own egotistical head, that he doesn’t realize he’s become just like Maxie, the very man he condemned and overthrew before.

Garnet has tried to persuade his former friends into joining him in Team Magma Alpha with the promise of working directly beside him, the most often of which has been Wally, and every single time Wally has rejected his offers, being terrified of what his friend’s become now.

In act of defiance, however, May/Sapphire went to the other side, and, with consent of Archie, became the new Boss of Team Aqua under the name Larimar. She despises everything Garnet has become and wants to bring him down, dismantle Team Magma Alpha, and hopefully rehabilitate him and turn him back into his old self.

Personality:

Garnet outwardly seems to be a very cold, stoic, no-nonsense individual on the surface. He tends to talk very flatly and often has little to no discernible expression on his face. Though his stoicism is not an act and has simply become the default of how he behaves towards others in interactions over the years, underneath, however, Garnet is a deranged and corrupt man that's clearly been driven mad by his gained power, and the tempation of even more power. He’s never privy to how he comes off, or how twisted he’s become as a person - he has to be justified in his beliefs and actions in some way or another, or else he’s become the very evil he sought out to destroy at the start. He always has to win, and he always has to be “right”. He can’t stand the thought, or ever accept any suggestion that he might be in the wrong, because he can never believe himself as such.

Although he’ll never be able to see himself as one, he takes enjoyment in acting like a supervillain as a joke. He’s developed his own evil laugh, and designed his office to have what he deems a villainous look, with black, Victorian style furniture and skull patterned red walls. Everytime now that someone visits his office, he's made a habit out of slowly turning to face them while sitting in his office chair, and giving them a menacing look as he gently strokes his Delcatty's head while she lays in his lap.

Garnet is very religious, almost obsessively so, worshiping the Weather Trio as deities and hoping to make himself “worthy” enough so that they’ll share their power with him. He frequently makes offerings to them in hopes that one day they’ll recognize him and his greatness. He needs to be chosen by them, because in his mind, it’ll validate all the evil he’s done under Magma Alpha up to this point, and he’ll know he’s justified. He’s obsessed with making the world beautiful, and knows in his heart that the Weather Trio, Groudon particularly, could make so much more so.

Notes:

- Garnet has a massive interest in meteorology, and frequently monitors and makes comments on the weather. Every morning at Team Magma's headquarters, Garnet announces the weather for the day, including the temperature, predictions for the night, the humidity and pressure, as well as the amounts of pollen in the air.

- Garnet designed and made his outfit himself.

- He's in his late 20s.

- He still needs his glasses, but doesn’t wear them often out of vanity.

- Garnet is gay and has unrequited romantic feelings for Wally, these feelings were an influence on his multiple attempts at persuading Wally to join his side. He dreams of having someone he can rule the world together with - an evil partner-in-crime.

- Although he’s so deep in his belief that his actions are just and he’s doing good, deep down Garnet does feel some semblance of shame for how things have become, and feels as though he can’t face those he was once close with without some kind of objective. He hasn’t shown his face to his family since before he joined Team Magma, and as far as his mom and dad know, he’s been missing for years.
