Being the first creation of a talented royal scientist, Caroline, Serial Number 0 is the oldest prototype version of her artificial species, created to serve its snake creators. Prototype went through many tests and changes in appearance before its improved blueprints were used to manufacture others of its kind. Despite having no specialized purpose later on, Caroline had kept them around as her most loyal assistant and achievement.

Besides snake scientists, Prototype also closely worked with Serial Number 1, a young mechanic hivemind designed to watch over all the planet's robots. However, little did Proto know they'll not only one day witness hivemind's uprising, but also be the first victim of its software-controling virus, turning them into an empty extension of hivemind's consciousness.

Before being freed by Caroline, Proto had remained in the possessed state for dozens of months, with no ability to remember it. Despite having billions of questions after their awakening, the royal scientist didn't have time nor strength to explain even a fifth of the horrors happening outside the lab. With pure paranoia in her eyes, she instructed Proto to fix her mistakes by traveling back in time thanks to a stolen time-space artifact.

Her orders barely made any sense, especially to someone so literal as Serial Number 0. Unfortunately, it was too late for doing anything else, meaning Proto had to stuck to their vague plan. A plan that turned out to be impossible. No matter how Proto tried to change the timeline, the time-space continuum paradox was always ahead. With the growing distress of constant failing, reliving moments they originally didn't remember and not being even sure how the artifact works, Proto was inevitably sent to a completely unknown location somewhere in time. For years, Serial Number 0 wandered across the space with a desperate hope to reunite with its creators. They were lost, hunted down, but also helped and lectured by other galactic races or time-space travelers, including their future self.

As Proto would say- what counts as "presence" in their case? With the artifact, Prototype constantly lives in many places at once. However, for the sake of their friends, the presence refers to the time they meet Skylar and become her fellow ambassador ally. Being the only snake left with royal ancestors, Prototype feels she's the closes living thing to their old rightful master- Caroline.

With Skylar's permission, Proto sometimes visits the robotic empire they're related to. Since its main hivemind would still love to decimate the rest of their old oppressors, Prototype is trying their best to diplomatically keep everyone in peace.
