- she is fully blind, and was born as such.
- she was also born with freckles! however, they are usually hidden by her mask.
- she will never take her mask off, unless absolutely necessary.
- though flirty, she isn’t particularly interested (or in search of) a serious relationship.
Being born blind and brought up by a single mother created a difficult childhood. Yet she was a passionate youth, and learned about the world from what fragments she succeeded in hearing. When she found out about the pirates, the marines, and the world government, it didn't take her long to figure out who was right and who was wrong. Still, she remained optimistic, seeking to comfort others with a song and a dance when she could.
One day, her mother accidentally fed her the zetsu zetsu no mi, after going out and gathering a variety of fruit. despite its strange appearance, her mother believed it was a perfectly normal fruit and due to never having swam independently, celeste did not first notice the effects.
She began to notice that something was wrong in adolescence, when her songs and dances made the people around her seem dark and lethargic. it just seemed to worsen, even though she was unaware of the physical effect it had on others. And so she kept singing, hoping it would make everybody feel better!
Celeste's song was almost constant from day to day, until her mother decided to leave her on a boat and set her at sea. Burdened with severe depression, her mother could not stand her presence any longer.
she never found out what happened, and yet she managed to survive.
She had spent most of her life alone, adrift at sea and surviving on fish that she could catch. She was ready for anything, if it meant she wouldn't be lonely anymore. by a stroke of luck, the victoria punk had passed her boat, and she made a strong effort to trail them by following the sounds of a boisterous crew.
Although initially ignored (or undetected), she continued to follow until they eventually called. it took a lot of persuasion, but she ended up convincing the captain of the ship to ignore her shortcomings and give her a chance.
Her life would thereafter be dedicated to him and his crew.
captain
he gave her a second chance at life and companionship, and so she dedicates her life to him and his beliefs. all in all, she doesn’t believe she could have found a better crew to be in, nor a better captain to lead them.
crewmate
with his calmer demeanor, she views killer as somewhat of a mentor―and calls him “old man”, despite not being many years younger than him.
upon learning his sacrifice for the crew, she only idolized him more, admiring his devotion to the crew (and wishing death upon those who took advantage of his loyalty).
crewmate
at times, she will just sit and stare at him, admiring his tattoos, stitches, hair, and corset―his fashion was a big inspiration to her usual outfit/s, when she made the switch to fit the crew’s punkish clothing standards.
