Character

History

Karse lives in an underground cave by the mountains of Eloisond. He began creating jewelry when he was just a young boy, using anything he could find. From broken old cups from the trash to clay he would dig from the ground himself, and of course gemstones.

Karse' parents were frequent travelers, they often went to other planets via gemstones to explore, a dangerous hobby. Karse was 14 when his parents disappeared and never returned, leaving him to go live with his older brother, aged 26, who was not exactly happy to add Karse to his daily life.

Tannid, his older brother, had never been close to Karse, and had moved away from the family cave as soon as he had become an adult when Karse was 6. For Karse it was like living with a total stranger. Despite jewelry making not being labeled male or female work in particular, Tannid derided Karse' hobby, despite his obvious proficiency.

As soon as Karse was able, he traveled far from his brothers home in Favari, and ended up in Eloisond where he claimed a small underground cave. In what would normally be the long entryway, Karse set up a workshop. He used his abilities to carve out the rest of the cave into a small dwelling, with only a single other partitioned room for toiletries. He soon became established as the gem to see if someone had valuable jewelry to be repaired, or to commission a piece.

One day in a box of his mothers old trinkets, he found a journal of their travels, as he thumbed through it, he saw a world described that they had traveled to through a sun stone deposit. In his mothers notes was detailed drawings of a beautiful mineral she had found. Karse, after many failed attempts and quite a bit more research, finally found the planet she had explored. It was there he met Da'av, a freelance Jietal explorer, the two became friends over their mutual love for bead making.

He meets Mirisma

They Meet

A few months after an earthquake occurred, he finally manage to get to Hanatui to prospect a river he often found unusual stones in, he hoped to find some that had been displaced by the quake. On the way down the side of the river bed, he tripped and fell onto Mirisma, a diopside gemmismae, she promptly kicked him in the groin and leveled a gemstone shaft at his throat.

He managed to get a good look at her as he writhed in agony on the wet shore of the river. She was really pretty! Did she just roll her eyes at me?! Im in pain here! "Ill never have children now!"

"Please, you have another set in there."

That was so cold and heartless! Karse sat up at that, "Well, I wanted to use this set. Its damaged now I think."

After that, Karse found any excuse to go see her, and made up several.

He would do anything to make her smile, once he realized how amazing it made him feel to see her face light up, even if it meant a knee to his groin, or a rock thrown at his head.

He would come and sit by her at the river, feet dangling in, and talk about everything from his terrible older brother, to making jewelry trinkets for Bloomhearth (everyone loves new jewelry for the festivals!) She would pretend to ignore him while she worked weaving baskets. Sometimes he would "accidentally" splash her with water while gesturing and get a playful smack for his trouble (although depending on her mood, it sometimes left bruises.)

One day while they were together by the river, him babbling as usual, a strange sound echoed through the forest, they found out later it was some invention that had gone wrong and made a terrible sound. But it had been close to the arena buzzer and Mirisma (having been a captive of an intergalactic space arena, see her profile) had gone into full fight mode. Rocks rose from the ground behind her ready to be thrown and she stood over Karse in a fighting stance, gemstone shaft at the ready. He dared not move, he barely breathed in fear she would unleash her energy at him. But then he saw a small bird in his peripheral and it reminded him of a song his mother had sung once, he began to hum it softly, and slowly but surely, Mirisma returned to her senses.

As the rocks she had been holding with her ability fell to the ground, Karse felt a jolt run through his body. The spark! He was elated! He saw a look of joy? Hope? spread crossed Mirismas face but as soon as he saw it it was gone. She grimaced and turned away. Karse felt as though she had scorched him in fire and left him dead with that grimace.

After that he came back to their usual spot by the river everyday, no matter how busy he was he always found a few moments to spare to sit and wait for her. Then one day, he heard her approach, and spoke softly, "I've come back everyday."

They felt the spark once more... And she did not deny it.
