Basic Bio: Opal was made to be a census taker. At first, she was excited and energetic, but as time grew on, she got bored. Gems are really all the same, aren't they? Yeah, sure, you have different gems and different cuts and different personalities, but the statistics are all the same. She's not a census taker to collect data, but to make sure everyone is following the law.
And then the job lost its charm.
It also didn't help that she got the gem equivalent of rape on one of her missions, but...at least she got a Pearl out of it, right...?
She was given Pink Coral Pearl as a therapy Pearl to help cope with the incident (who she calls Coral, though everyone else- except other Pearls- refers to as Pearl).
As for going to Earth, her and her group (including Pink Coral Pearl, Nephrite Jade, Era 1 Peridot and Lapis Lazuli) crashed on a foreign planet filled with gem-devouring creations. She was poofed, saved by her Pearl and had only un-poofed as Jade and Coral were flying away.
Basic Personality: Opal used to be energetic and easily excitable when she first formed. Naive as hell, too. Overtime, her job/life got boring and she had to make it interesting for herself, slowly morphing her personality from happy-go-get-'em to laid back, chill af, "Eh, just do what you want."
She loves seeing individuals interact in different ways and expressing their unique personalities. She loves observing, asking questions. Because of this, Opal gives her Pearl way too much freedom than the Pearl is comfortable with...not that Coral will say that, of course, but she still wishes that Opal would give her more structure.
James, the human that the group encounters, is also chill af, and her, James and Peridot become the best friends trio.

This lenient nature most likely comes from her interest in other gems/people (people once they get to Earth). She's a census taker. She sees all sorts of weird shit, and she loves seeings how other gems act under certain situations. It fascinates her."

Reverse!Peridot - Reverse is an AU where their personalities (and to a degree, their appearances) are the exact opposite of their usual self. Reverse!Opal is the opposite of Opal- a stick in the mud, business-oriented, very bossy (especially with his Pearl) and hardly ever anything but professional in relationships. Jem (James's reverse self) respects him a ton and relies on him a lot, but their relationship has hardly any intimacy, unlike normal!Opal and James's.
