Lucius Zuciane (SWAP AU)

Determined to protect and serve the few people that he’s decided to pledge his loyalty to, Lucius plays the devoted knight in every single relationship he’s ever chosen to have. He truly believes that everything he does is driven by love -- love, and the selfless desire to make sure that his loved ones have a chance to live the life that they want to lead, without any obstacles or threats in their way to stop them from doing so. Working from the shadows, Lucius treats the people around him almost like porcelain dolls: fragile, frail, and in need of his protection. It’s hard for him to take things lightheartedly. His usually-flat affect makes it, in turn, hard for others to trust him or be anything other than intimidated by his presence.

This poses an issue, of course, because of how desperate Lucius is for the same love and dependency that he has for others to be returned to him. He defines his worth by how much he can do for others and how much they reciprocate the sense of devotion (and despondency) that permeates every aspect of his life. It’s hard for him to get out of his own head, at times. He’s constantly idolizing the people that his loved ones could be, rather than the people they are; he’s constantly thinking about what his loved ones would want, rather than what they’ve actually asked for. He’d follow the Investigation Division to the ends of the universe, if they asked him to. The Virion Project is just another means for him to stay close to their work -- and hopefully find a way to protect them from a threat that he can’t find a solution to on his own.
