02 — Personality

Carabelle carries herself with a lot of class. She tends to be the most stylish person in every room, and she knows it. A fashionista with a trained eye for color and design, Carabelle's used to the spotlight. People tend to recognize her on the street, asking her for pictures or for her signature whenever they get the chance to. To her credit, she handles the attention excellently. While she takes a lot of pride in her work, she doesn't let it stop her from being as gracious as possible towards her fans. Carabelle's phone is packed full of an endless list of contacts consisting of both followers and fellow designers alike. She's willing to get to know anybody who puts the effort in to know her -- you can't make it big without a little networking, after all!

When she's off of work, particularly when she's comfortable with the group of people that she's with, people would describe Carabelle as quite the party girl. She tends to drink a bit more than she can handle, loving the taste and aesthetic of fancy drink mixes (and forgetting, sometimes, that the drinks that taste good can actually have a lot of alcohol in them). She can get rather loud and boisterous before she passes out, often to the amusement of her friends. While she'd never do anything scandalous, she can embarrass herself: dancing exaggeratedly on the middle of the dance floor or laughing hard enough that everyone can hear her banging on the table.

Carabelle holds herself strictly to the motto of "work hard, play hard." When she actually needs to sit down to meet a deadline or help her friends, she puts her whole heart into her work, making sure that she never has to make anybody wait for her end of a project. Even though it might be a somewhat unconventional way to get inspiration, Carabelle promises that she does her best work whenever she's slightly tipsy, with some quiet music on in the background. When she's sober again, she'll meticulously check over all her drafts, making adjustments as necessary. She takes a lot of pride in her work for a reason, after all -- and how can she maintain that pride if she stops putting time and effort into her designs?

03 — Background

Past

Carabelle was born to a well-off family that manufactured ice cream -- giving her plenty of opportunities to explore her many interests. While her parents ensured that she received a full education (with a particular focus on business management and economics), Carabelle indulged herself in her extracurriculars: singing, ballet, and even guitar and cooking. She was always inclined towards more creative pursuits, even if she excelled in whatever studies were thrown at her. Above all else, nothing brought her more joy than drawing.

Ever since she was young, she'd had a special eye for clothes and accessories, watching fashion shows on television or going people-watching in order to note her favorite features about other's garments. Her parents wholeheartedly supported her dream of entering the fashion industry, showing off her original designs to their family friends and telling others that it was her natural talents and gifts that made her such a skilled artist. Carabelle, however, would insist that her success was purely because of her hard work and determination -- something that her parents never got to see.

Behind the scenes, it took Carabelle dozens of rejections from art and design schools and different brand companies before she could get to where she is now. Her ideas were often criticized by more professional designers for being "plain, boring, or too unoriginal." It didn't stop Carabelle from continuing to improve, however. She would broaden her skillset, taking note of fashion design advice along with general graphic design, interior design, and even web design in order to develop her sense of style and taste. She kept applying, constantly adding new work to her portfolio and taking comments and criticisms from any mentor willing to provide. She would build her social media presence online, hoping one day to be as famous as all those fashion designers that she saw featured on the front pages of tabloids and magazines.

It took her an extraordinary amount of time and practice, but Carabelle eventually made it into her dream university in Atriven City, where she would major in fashion design. While she and her roommate, Musika, got off to a bit of a rocky start, the two of them would eventually put aside their differences, living together for four years and graduating around the same time. As her name grew larger and larger, Carabelle would eventually be offered a brand deal, which she immediately accepted. Her family name would slowly become associated both with the popular ice cream and with the line of apparel that she created. Her parents were as proud as they could be -- and also called her back home more often than ever, asking her to take pictures and make advertisements as the poster girl for their ice cream company.

It was an incredible shock for most people when Carabelle announced that she would be stepping away from her budding spotlight to join the Virion Project as its head designer. While she'd still be making some clothes, most of her time would be eaten up by the work she'd be doing for a government agency, of all things. Those who know her best can't say that it came as too much of a surprise, however. While Carabelle might enjoy the fame that she has as a fashion designer, she'd always been driven to expand her horizons, constantly learning more to train her creative eye.

Virion Project

As part of the Virion Project, Carabelle works closely with her partner, Irene, to maintain the Virion Project's social media pages, website, and news reports. She takes on the brunt of the graphic design work and scheduling, having gotten used to managing her busy schedule and coordinating interviews and photoshoots when she was first growing in popularity.

The Outbreak Incident would take a significant toll on her; while she was used to dealing with personalized negative feedback from her professors and critics, she wasn't used to getting widespread negative feedback from everyone who used to adore her. It took her and Irene an extraordinary amount of work to save the reputation of the Virion Project -- and she still feels deeply grateful to Aaron, the "head" of the Investigators, for helping them recover so quickly.

In the aftermath of the Incident, Carabelle's certainly gotten more careful with her own social media presence and in keeping news about the Virion Project as carefully neutral as possible. Nevertheless, she's glad that she's managed to take on such an important role within the organization. She has enough time, as she's always had, to draw -- and the chance to have her designs be seen by so many people, no matter what form they end up taking, is what drew her towards fashion in the first place.

04 — Trivia

  • She loves taking long bubble or mud baths while watching telenovelas. It's one of her favorite activities because it reminds her of home.

  • Even though she tried to be diligent, she had to retake a few classes in college, missing deadlines because she was drunk. She graduated college a year later than she was supposed to, even though she did well in her studies whenever she chose to focus.

  • Her family is somewhat rich, and so she usually offers to buy anything that her friends might need. If you're short on cash during an outing with Carabelle, you can count on her to pay the rest of it. She won't let herself be taken advantage of, though!

  • Her hood has two holes on the side for her ears, but don't have any holes for her horns. They're made entirely out of smoke, and end up filtering through most thin fabrics (while still holding their general shape).

  • Carabelle was invited to apply to the Virion Project personally by its CEOs -- having seen how popular she was on social media, after all. She'd never had the best eye for detailed text, though, and her resume had several embarrassing typos on it that she only saw after she'd gotten an offer.

  • Even though she's technically part-Otherworlder -- where there aren't exactly deer and carabao -- she's always felt an affinity for those animals, which is why she avoids meat products as much as she does. She's still fine with foods like milk and eggs, however.

05 — Relationships

work partner

”Irene-e-e! Oh, I absolutely love her! She's always so responsible and so hardworking... reminds a girl of herself, hehe. God, I could talk with her for AGES if she'd let me -- but it's probably good that she keeps me on track!”

Carabelle regards Irene with a lot of respect -- and a lot of overt friendliness, which contrasts with Irene's more serious demeanor in a somewhat comedic fashion. The two of them work very closely together, with Carabelle providing a more artistic vision to Irene's press reports and no-nonsense writing style.

Carabelle loves it when she can crack Irene's solemn mask, getting her to loosen up a bit... or at least enough to let Carabelle drink in the office. She's one of the few people who can make Irene smile in public -- something that Carabelle, despite how much she teases Irene about it, genuinely holds very close to her heart. In turn, she relies on Irene to keep her grounded and focused whenever she gets too hung up on criticism or too lost in the details of all her work.
