Story
Basics
Solana is well-mannered and knows when it's better to keep her mouth shut. However, when she says something, it usually hits the mark. She is very self-confident and learns things quickly, but she also has a rather short fuse in some cases and can then become a little snappy and unreasonable. Despite all manners, when she's mad because something does not work out (when a Machine makes trouble for example, a tool breaks or whatever) some not so nice stuff comes out of her mouth in anger ("Shit!" "Gosh damnit, whyyy!!" "Are you ffff kidding me!!" "You stupid machine!" "ScheiΓe!").
Once she has set her mind on a goal, she is not easily dissuaded. If she experiences a failure, she puts the project aside for the time being, only to try again a little later.
Solana is very empathetic, but can also be a little bitchy and stubborn. Nevertheless, she is always happy to help whenever she can. It is a great feeling for her how things she has crafted are able to help the people around her.
Living in Sandrock has taught her many new traits that she didn't even realize she would be good at.
She is good with guns and knows how to defend herself in the harsh desert environment. And should she ever run out of ammo, two daggers are always at the ready.
The past
Her family belongs to the high society of Highwind. There she learned manners, etiquette and how to behave and dress like a lady in the company of strangers (and how to suppress her snappy mouth). She took singing lessons and learned to play the harp and guitar. Her parents always wanted her to make something of these talents, but for Solana it was more of a hobby. Apart from that, she doesn't enjoy playing the instruments too much.
She had no shortage of admirers, but no one managed to win her heart.
One day, Solana was fed up with this dull life. And when something impactful happened in her friendship circle on top of all, she just wanted to leave this cursed place called Highwind.
Her parents' wealth may have been very pleasant here and there, but she lacked challenges. She had so much talent and energy to give, but she felt like a bird in a gilded cage, suppressing it all, not allowed to express herself, not allowed to do anything she'd like.
She wanted to create something, to earn something on her own and not just simply buy it. She wanted a simpler life, alone and independent. Wild and free.
And so she broke her golden chains and left home to break out of her old life. Her parents did not approve of her decision, but at the end they could not force her adult daughter to stay. Worried about her, they let her go.
And so Solana's path led her to Sandrock in a roundabout way. At first she traveled back and forth a little, using up as much of her savings as possible to make a real new start in Sandrock. On her journey, she also acquired the one or other handicraft skill, because creating something with her own hands that she could be proud of, that she could look back on, was ultimately what she wanted most.
When she arrived in Sandrock, the moment couldn't have been better, as new people were desperately needed. So she took the place of a former craftsman and took over his old workshop and house. It was... expandable and anything but what she was used to, but at the same time, the minimalist interior somehow made her feel liberated from her past, and she could not wait to make this her own little paradise.
The present
Solana felt home in Sandrock very quickly. To her own surprise, she was a quick learner - the whole crafting business really seems to be her thing and work out for her, and if work is fun, it isn't really work, isn't it?
For the first time in Solana's life, a man caught her full attention. Owen, the owner of the Blue Moon Saloon. However, it took a while before Solana realized that she wanted to get to know him better. Owen was an open, friendly and warm-hearted person who had lived in Sandrock all his life. She therefore found it difficult to see through him and find out if he might like her the way she did.
Solana didn't realize it for a long time, but at some point Owen also felt the desire to have her around more often. Her presence in the saloon increasingly brightened his day - she had a way about her that fascinated him. Solana also came by every day. Mostly to sell or buy something, or just to eat or talk to him. Owen was known as a storyteller, and he quickly realized that he particularly enjoyed telling her stories outside of his weekly story night. Her eyes lit up every time and listened to every single word.
Owen often gave her little jobs to bring him fish for the restaurant. However, this was just a small excuse to see and interact with her more than once a day. Eventually Grace realized that there was no shortage of fish in the kitchen, and Owen kept sending Solana out anyway. Grace wasn't stupid, she quickly realized what was going on with her boss and teased him a little every now and then about it. His reactons to this told more than thousand words.
She was extremely excited on the evening of her first singing performance on the stage of his saloon. Solana was glad she had brought her "good clothes" from highwind. She put on what she thought was appropriate for such an occasion and made herself pretty. When she opened the door to Owen's saloon, he couldn't believe his eyes. He hadn't expected her to take his breath away like that. Solana had so many facets! It was all over him at that moment. How was it possible that she "transformed" from a kinda rough (he heard her swearing now and then on the workshop) and tough builder to an 'actor' like this?! His interest for her lit up like a bonfire that's been kindled with fuel.
