Raised by the Helmites
Unknown Parents
Undine has never really known who thier parents were, or why they were found wandering alone near the Helmite Fortress - but that is not to say that they do not have a family. Undine grew up largely considering their fellow Helmites who raised and trained them to be a Paladin as a sort of found family. They grew up idolizing their superiors because of their decision to take them in and raise her as one of their own. While she has asked several people, if not most, around the temple about her parents or where she came from - they genuinely seem honest to her about not knowing where she came from. They have always wondered about their parents, but has not been disappointed with their upbringing.
Undine has taking a likeness to their superior who taught them the way of the sword, Watcher Rowe, even if it may be obvious to others that she isn't the best person in the temple. Undine is under the belief that thier superiors know what they are doing, and would not make a decision out of malice. And Watcher Rowe thinks fondly of them because they is capable and follows orders. For better or worse, Undine thinks of her as family and trusts her completely.
Teenage Years and Training
Giving up Gender and Taking Up The Sword
By the time Undine was a teen, they knew that they didn't really have a gender like everyone else. They preferred to be judged by the capabilities rather than their outward appearance. So, as they started to learn some of their more basic training they made the decision to ask their fellow Helmites to refer to themselves using gender neutral pronouns.
When she was around 18 years old, she met Sean, who was a clerical prodigy at age 15 in the temple. Seeing that he was having a little trouble adjusting and making friends with the other apprentices - they approached him to make sure that he wasn't completely alienated from their peers. Sean and Undine became fast friends, Undine looking out for Sean and Sean sometimes getting Undine into trouble. Undine came to care for Sean a lot and considers him to be their best friend.
Around the time that Undine turned 23 they were considered skilled enough to go on thier first real mission, however, things would not go as well as planned after The Sahuagin attacked the fortress...
Injury and Recovery
Halfblinded, Scarred, and Adjusting
There was a large Sahuagin attack on the fortress as Undine and Sean were nearing completing their training. During this fight, they lost main of their friends - and would have lost many more if it was not for Sean's bravery in deciding to continue fighting despite his injuries. Sean made sure that everyone else could get out, but that act of bravery cost him both of his arms. Undine, unwilling to leave thier friend there to die even he seemed willing to risk his life to save theirs. Undine went back into the fight, ultimately resulting in the loss of their right eye, and fought their way to Sean in order to carry him back to the fortress.
Both Sean and Undine had to spend a lengthy time recovering from their injuries. Undine never let Sean be alone in his, and she made sure to help him adjust to his new disability and the use of his new arms. Their superiors were hard on them, but Sean worst of all - some claiming that they lived in a fortess and not a daycare. However, Undine kept vouching for Sean and insisting that with enough time he could recover and adjust to his new limbs. And as much as Undine helped Sean, Sean helped her. They worked through their recovery together for four years until they were considered ready for their first real mission out of the fortress since the attack - which is to say, their first at all.
Undine has faith in thier abilities, and confidence that they will make their superiors and their God proud. With their new assignment to protect a druid from the nearby grove, they hope that together with Sean - the two of them can do their duty and prove to their superiors that they are capable as they help others.
