Riiani Jrasiin is an energetic, impish, and adventurous young Djragoni who resides on Earth disguised as a human as part of a rite-of-passage she volunteered for.

Riiani's Past

Riiani was born in a large coastal city on Draiig as opposed to a small tribe. Cities on Draiig are less "cities" and more densely packed groupings of large tribes that congregate around vital geographical locations, such as a rich coastline. Djragoni from these cities are less tight-knit compared to small tribes, preferring to pay attention to their own kin and tribes-people first and foremost. Riiani's caretakers were herbal healers for her particular tribe, specializing in medicine and spiritual cures with an aversion to hunters. Riiani herself, while raised to be a healer, wanted to be a hunter instead. She would often slip away from her herbal medicine lessons to watch the large hunting parties catch the day's meal, in awe of their agility and cooperation.

Riiani had few friends despite being surrounded by other Djragoni, even ones her age. She spent her early years only around Djragoni much older than her because her caretakers raised her while also going through a rigorous healer's guild, which required families to live on the isolated grounds, so Riiani socialized with few other children. When her caretakers finished the guild, they would settle with the rest of their tribe in the city where they hoped Riiani would finally socialize with other young Djragoni. But the lack of social interaction over her developmental years would leave her preferring the company of the wilderness instead. But, Riiani would long for an opportunity to spread her wings, learn how to be brave and charismatic, and go on a grand adventure.

The Passage

Then, like a shining light through the haze, such an opportunity appeared. It was once again time for the sacred ceremony known as The Passage. The competition was extremely fierce, for with such a large grouping came with many volunteers hungry for this journey. Riiani, against her parent's wishes, would volunteer. To decide who would be chosen, a challenge of skill was issued to the young competitors, testing their abilities in intelligence, agility, and survival. But, a new challenge was issued for this Passage, one unique to this particular instance, and the reason would not be divulged. Riiani, having spent years studying the hunters and secretly honing her skills, was able to make it quite far in the challenge, her skills as an herbalist also giving her an upper hand.

It was down to the final contenders, and this mysterious last obstacle would be revealed. The young Djragoni would have to show their empathy for foreign peoples by saving the life of a dying Visitor. This came at a shock to the entire city watching the competition. All over the planet, Visitors had been popping up on Djragoni land, invading their spaces and in many cases, forming bitter rivalries. To many tribes, Visitors were seen as vermin, unwelcome nuisances that were harming their live. But to  others, they were curiosities that bore miraculous, incredible gifts for the tribes willing to accept their presence. The coastal city was one of the areas that had received such gifts from the Visitors in the form of space travel, and under the guidance of Djragoni elders from around the planet, a plan had been conceived that would be carried out by their capable youth. And the city's way of finding this youth would be in the form of this challenge of moral empathy.

The elders had happened upon a visitor dying of a mysterious infection. The task would be to identify the ailment and find the proper cure.............IF they so chose. There would be an option to leave the Visitor to die if the Djragoni judged them to be corrupt, which if true, would also be a correct action. The contenders would each have a look at the Visitor, most not being able to identify the ailment. And those that would, after mere seconds of interaction, would refuse to cure them, branding them as corrupt. Finally, it would be Riiani's turn. Years of herbalist training had her EASILY identify the affliction, a native fungus that while a small nuisance to Djragoni, was deadly to this foreign body. She could easily assemble the remedy, but now came the time to choose if the Visitor was worthy. Riiani was aware of the Visitor's presence on Draiig, and the controversy that came with them. While she herself was prone to fits of anger and aggression, she did not consider herself a violent person. And her upbringing as a healer conditioned her to help, not hurt. The choice would be difficult, but Riiani would choose to heal them.

As she waited for the Visitor to react to the antidote, she held her breath, hoping her choice was correct. And when the Visitor could once again stand, the elders held her hand aloft, proclaiming her the victor. There was no correct answer in letting the Visitor die, a winner would only be chose if they chose mercy, and Riiani would be the only one who did. The purpose of this test would be to gauge the young contender's capacity for empathy specifically of a foreign kind, for they would not be settling with a different tribe, they would be settling with a different species. And Riiani would be this city's Djragoni ambassador to another planet.

Elated, Riiani would take this task with honor, even more excited at the prospect of travelling the stars. However, the elders would not tell Riiani where she would be going, just that it is crucial she ally with the people of this world. Her destiny sealed, Riiani would board the vessel gifted from the Visitors, waiting in anticipation for the world she would see, the people she would meet, and the adventure she would have.

Life on Earth

Riiani's vessel would land in a dense forest. As she emerged, she would find no people to greet. Exploring the alien wilderness, she would note the similarities to home and the steps she would need to take to ensure survival before she began her journey. Suddenly, she would hear a noise come from the brush and assume it to be a native animal, and feeling peckish after her long trip, saw it as an opportunity to hunt. She pounced, expecting to hear a squeak or a squeal, but instead understood words. And saw the creature she had ambushed was about her size, dressed in cloth, and begging for its life. It was a native!

Riiani backed off the native and when she noticed they hadn't risen too, became worried she had injured them. But...they were just very afraid. Riiani was unsure if she could communicate with them, but attempted a greeting, and was shocked to see the native actually respond......with twice as much shock. After some familiarization, the native revealed some vital information. Riiani learned the planet's name, the native's language, and the name of the native themself: Sirmiq Senungetuk, of the Human Race. Riiani would explain to Sirmiq her journey and her mission to ally with the people of this world. Sirmiq, cautious but curious about this fantastical scenario, would agree to help her in her quest. At first he was hesitant, but Riiani would offer to teach the human how to be bold and adventurous as her first allied human friend, which was an offer Sirmiq couldn't turn down.

With Sirmiq's help, Riiani would be fitted with a disguise that allowed her to blend in among mankind. She would also accompany Sirmiq to school, which she saw as a great place to learn more about human society. She has a rocky start socializing with humans, for her lack of charisma and glaring alien-ness were quite the obstacles. But, with the help of her human ally, she would get the hang of it little by little.

At least until the competition from home arrives...
