MYKOLA

ABOUT

NAME   Mykola (Микола)

NATIONALITY   Ukrainian

NICKNAME(S)   Kolya (Коля)

SPECIES   Stuffed crocodile

AGE  55+

HEIGHT Flexible

GENDER Male (he/him)

STATUS Forever homed

LIKES

  • Water (even though he shouldn't be in it)
  • Being outside
  • Old movies from his "time" (he feels nostalgic)
  • Classic literature
  • Being hugged or cuddled

DISLIKES

  • Being dressed up
  • Getting too close to heat sources (fire, stoves, etc.)
  • When people point out his lazy eye (he knows it's there, you don't have to remind him)
  • Really logical people with no imagination
  • Mice

TRIVIA

  • Even though Mykola is made of synthetic materials, it's still probably not a good idea to submerge him in water—however, this "minor setback" in his design does not stop him
  • His anatomy allows him to run on four legs, but he doesn't do this very often because he thinks it's embarrassing (he'll only do it when he's alone)
  • He is from Kharkiv, (Soviet) Ukraine
  • He likes to floss his teeth as part of his nightly routine even though he doesn't eat (because he's a toy) … and his teeth are made of plastic—maybe it just makes him feel fresh before bed?

DESIGN NOTES

  • His right eye is lazy; it is permanently shifted down and does not have an iris (he is also blind in that eye)
  • He has an underbite so his bottom teeth are always sticking out—any other protruding teeth are randomly placed
  • The length of his snout can vary from art style to art style as long as he's not flat-faced
  • He has "fur" (not real fur) because he is a stuffed animal, so please do not draw him without fur/with proper scales
  • His underbelly gets dirty easily, but any discolouring (example on reference sheet) is completely optional

PERSONALITY

Mykola, who is known to most of his friends as Kolya, is a soft-spoken old crocodile with an appetite for adventure and a huge imagination. He looks intimidating with his big protruding teeth and deep gravelly voice, but he's actually a pretty friendly guy; he only uses his teeth for smiling and his voice comes in handy for storytelling. He's known among his fellow toys for being mild-mannered, even-tempered, and a great outdoorsman—or crocodile. There's nothing he loves more than the great outdoors! Especially rural landscapes and vast untouched wilderness. Being a stuffed toy—and therefore so close to the ground—makes him the (self-proclaimed) world's greatest bug-catcher. (He's not actually that good at catching bugs because of his blind eye, but you don't want to break his heart, do you?) He is entranced by the magic of folklore and stories from his "youth"—as if toys can age—and loves retelling them to folks who are willing to listen. Kolya is not afraid to get his hands and plush dirty; he only cares when things get stuck in his teeth, which, to him, is a small price to pay. At the end of the day, Kolya likes winding down somewhere warm and sleeping the night away. He needs a lot of rest if he wants to chase bugs every day! Please note that his age is based on the date he was manufactured, not his mental and/or physical age.
