Vincent Williams is a character on Toyhouse. He is an original character of mine - a young, classy but bashful man that likes to dress up as a vampire.

Appearance

Vincent is a young black man with dark, shoulder-length curly hair, red eyes, and long bottom eyelashes.

He wears a white ruffle shirt with baggy sleeves, black dress pants, and white and dark gray shoes with black ties and golden heels. Over his outfit he wears a black and dark red cape with a dark red collar held together by a red gem, and his cape drapes over his right shoulder. He wears golden rings with red gems in the middle on both of his thumbs.

Vincent also wears black eyeshadow, has his nails painted red, and wears red gem earrings, the earring on his right ear being bigger than the left.

Personality

Vincent is rather introverted and doesn't seek out people or initiate interaction much outside of his job. He prefers to do a lot by himself and often is up alone in his room or outside of his house birdwatching when he's off work.

When he does interact with others, Vincent can be fanciful, being carefully articulate and occasionally using big words, sometimes even archaic words. He likes to dress very classy and sophisticated, sometimes attending parties with someone else and looking like he just walked out of a gothic castle from the 1800s. He loves vampires, and although he's not one, he likes to dress and act like one. He often wears fake fangs as a part of this.

Vincent is goth, and along with vampires, he has great interest in a lot of other gothic things in general. Particularly, he loves horror movies and books, the supernatural and occult, Halloween of course, and though it's not directly related to other gothic things, he also likes gothic architecture. He loves visiting haunted houses as well.

Honest, but a pragmatic realist, Vincent can be rather brutally honest with others, unintentionally discouraging things when he doesn't mean to. He doesn't hope for change like Dexter does, and while he doesn't necessarily accept it, he's rather used to the dilapidated state of his home city and feels it's too far gone to help.

Vincent doesn't like being a pessimist or dashing others' hopes, but it's become almost a default state for him over the years. The things he's seen have left him jaded, struggling to gain hope. He doesn't like being negative, but he is anyway. He's often looking for reasons not to, and trying to pick out things to find beauty in or things that give him joy.

Vincent can often come across as very walled off emotionally - and he is. Due to a tragedy in his family, he bottles up his emotions and doesn't let himself feel or articulate his feelings to others. He shoulders a lot of responsibility and grief, and though it's obvious to others he's haunted by something, he doesn't open up to others about what that would be.

Though he works at a comic book shop, Vincent is a bit secretive about his more dorky and nerdy interests, believing if people discover them he won't be seen as "cool" anymore. He admires people who can be unabashedly open about their embarrassing interests and cringiest parts of themselves, because he doesn't have the confidence to do so for himself. Though he appears cool and collected on the surface, overall Vincent is very bashful and embarrassed easily.

Though he can watch horror movies and read horror books without flinching, Vincent reacts very poorly when put into real-life horrifying situations. He'll freeze, shake, and get so terrified he makes himself sick. Vincent doesn't do well under pressure and he can shut down rather quickly in stressful situations.

Background

OVERVIEW

Vincent Darius Williams is a 23 year old man that works in an old comic shop in a dying city that many in regions around it only call "The City", as its name has been lost to time and decay from the elements of nature. Honest, but a pragmatic realist, Vincent has his doubts that things will ever get better in The City, and while he doesn't discourage people like Dexter from trying to reverse the decay, he thinks her efforts in the matter will ultimately be fruitless.

Vincent lives with his mom near the heart of The City, keeping to himself and often staying out of things. Especially after what happened to his father, he hardly leaves the house for anything but his job, groceries, or to briefly visit Dexter. Well aware of his reclusive nature, Vincent jokingly calls himself a hermit on some occasions. It's when Hattie was brought into The City that he started leaving The City more often, if just primarily to aid in efforts of getting her back home

HISTORY

Vincent was born and raised in The City with his mother, father, and later his younger sister. The state of The City's decay was not as bad when Vincent was a child compared to now, but it still wasn't well off. Early on as a child he'd often try to play among the rubble, only to be pulled back by his parents, trying to protect him from potential danger. Because Vincent's parents were anxious at the rate The City was dying, they sheltered him, homeschooling him as a child and closely watched him if they ever left the house.

One day, tragedy stuck the Williams family. While out with his mother, father, and sister, Vincent got trapped under some rubble after running off, and his father had to come to the rescue. In the process of trying to save his son, the rubble collapsed onto Vasco after he freed Vincent, and he suffocated to death. The accident devastated Vincent's family. His sister, Valentina, ran away from home to live far away from The City, leaving only Vincent and his mother. His mother was overwhelmed with grief and struggling immensely trying to support the family, unintentionally puting a lot of responsibility onto Vincent's shoulders for him to make money and provide.

At the time of all this, Vincent was only about 14 and it was a lot for him that he felt he had to take in. Wanting to be strong for his mom, he pushed a lot of his grief and newfound stress down so he could help her. To this day, Vincent has still never truly allowed himself to feel grief over his father's death and his sister suddenly leaving. He's bottled it all up and he hasn't opened up to anyone about it.

PRESENT

One day, Dexter notified Vincent she'd found a lost witch in the alleys of The City. After meeting with the two of them, Vincent volunteered to help with getting Hattie back home, and, he immediately became interested in her as a person due to her being a witch. He befriended her rather quickly, and, to his shock, she opened up to him and he found they shared very similar upbringings, though he didn't tell her about what happened in his family. Little by little, though, Dexter and Hattie are cracking open Vincent's shell. Someday, hopefully, he'll be able to truly open up about his grief with them.

Abilities

  • Acrobatics - Vincent is very quick on his feet, being agile and precise. This is especially impressive considering he walks around in heels so often.
  • Drawing - One of his dreams is to one day become a graphic novelist, and he's frequently practiced art to build to up to this. Particularly emulating the works of Reed Crandall, Vincent draws beautifully, and has many creative ideas laid out for future graphic novels.

  • Bent Dagger - He keeps a bent dagger on his person for self-defense purposes.

Trivia

  • Vincent was originally conceived to be the tritagonist of an idea I had for an RPG which I conceptually titled “Little Witch in the Big City”, with key inspirations from Deltarune, Pokemon, OneShot, and OFF. He was going to be another companion of Hattie's who would bond with her over shared interests, as well as display interest in her life as a witch.
  • Vincent loves rock music, mainly gothic rock and pop punk.
  • Vincent has a pet leopard gecko named Scarlet.
  • Vincent's favorite food is tiramisu.
  • He reads a lot of superhero and detective comics in his downtime.
  • Keeping in line with some of his old fashioned tastes, Vincent loves antiques, and his room is full of them. He particularly loves antique pottery and boxes.
  • Vincent is a trans man.
  • Here is Vincent's character playlist: YOU THINK THIS CITY IS WORTH SAVING ... ? ⚰️.
