Profile
An Oceanic Paranormal Protections intern (turned full-time member) from Blueyard. After a traumatizing childhood experience, she has harbored a persistent, humming fear of the world for almost twenty years. Now in her early adulthood, she wants to finally begin living life for herself. At the beginning of the story, she is a junior at Alice Blueyard College, where she majors in paranormal studies and minors in history.
Despite her cowardly streak, she has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and an enduring love for the sea. Expectations imposed upon her as a young child leads her to resent the idea of her potential; she can't seem to separate what she wants for herself from everything she's been told she should want. She's an earnest, hardworking person with neurotic tendancies and a sheepish disposition. Commemorating the start of her internship, Opal created a thalassopedia: a personal encyclopedia documenting the adventures she'll have as part of an O.P.P crew. It's more akin to a diary in which she stores her first-hand accounts with the paranormal.
Cowardly
She's that kid at school who would scream a little too loud when the lights turned off, except she means it entirely. Susceptible to blood, ghosts, heights, bugs, the dark, etc... trying new things also makes her nervous. If she can help it she stays away from places she's never been to.
Curious
She loves to learn, especially about supernatural phenomena. She is near incapable of thinking on her feet so she finds comfort in taking her time to learn the reasoning and basis behind what she doesn't understand.
Worrywart
She's very prone to worrying. It feeds into her cowardice as well as her chronic perfectionism. Her shaky mentality also leaves her more vulnerable to malicious spirits (which is something to worry about in itself).
Determined
When she locks on to a task, she will accomplish it no matter what, even if she must be terrified to do so. She's dependable, though she doesn't consider herself to be. When her pursuits become a detriment to her own health, it starts to border on obsession.
