> At A Glance

James is a determined clone who wishes to help with cloning extinct or critically endangered birds and bringing them all back to life in the modern world. Even though he has great ideas that are often ignored by many people, he still thinks that he is not as smart as his clone parent (though that is most likely not true) and overthinks about how disappointed his clone parent must be at him. James did not know too much about his clone parent from his foster parents, as only his foster father is aware of who his clone parent was. His foster father is a competitive birder who often takes his family on long trips just to see rare birds (which annoys Tanner, as he believes that birdwatching should not be competitive), and his foster mother is a watercolor artist who paints scenery and animals.

Tanner's inseparable partner, Sonny Boy, is also the clone of the actual ivory-billed woodpecker that the actual Tanner had banded, and was presented to him by Scudworth on his 15th birthday. Sonny Boy lives up to his clone parent's name - he is feisty and playful according to Tanner, and their bond has even led to him nicknaming Sonny Boy as his "son" (as the name "Sonny Boy" is seen as outdated according to many in modern day). To Tanner, Sonny Boy may be considered one of his only friends. At school, James is often seen all by himself wandering in the halls or coding with a laptop due to his lack of friends. He hopes that people would stop hastening the extinction of the Earth's wildlife due to their actions.

> Personality

Jim doesn't talk to others much except if he knows that they are interested in the topics that he loves to talk about, as he was usually ignored as a child due to his habit of infodumping. He prefers nature more than the city, and would often go by himself
(or with some of his close friends) to locations where he thinks that he can feel like he can be one with nature as a whole. He is surprisingly athletic and loves participating in track and field events, and even gained a passion for drama - he is usually the star of the show in many school productions that he is in. He thinks that other clones see him as weird due to his personality, but usually ignores them and focuses on doing whatever he likes instead.

> Relationships

Confucius: One of Tanner's online friends who follows his nature accounts on Instagram and FlipFlop. He is genuinely interested in the content Tanner posts and finds his accounts "rather underrated".

Joan of Arc: Sonny Boy does not like her and often swoops at her. (Nobody knows why.) This leads to Tanner apologizing to her every time Sonny Boy gets out of control.

Scudworth: One of the people that Tanner truly admires (though James is aware of all the bad things that he has done) due to his intelligence. Tanner likes to help Scudworth with some of his miscellaneous works (such as arranging lab equipment and non-confidential files), and Scudworth secretly appreciates him for that as well.

Candide: Tanner finds her weird. She does not like Tanner either and often questions him when he is left alone in Scudworth's office whenever he volunteers to help with his work (which often leads to Scudworth having to intervene with her and Tanner escaping from the room).

> Trivia

- Jim is the clone of James T. Tanner (1914-1991), a naturalist and birder who dedicated a large part of his life to researching about the ivory-billed woodpecker. A graduate of Cornell University, James Tanner used to study the birds in the Singer Tract in Louisiana, and took the only known photos of a juvenile ivory-billed woodpecker (which he named "Sonny Boy") as well as banding it (on his birthday in 1938) while searching for ivory-billed woodpeckers with J. J. Kuhn, former warden of the Tract.

- One of Jim's alternate outfits, specifically the one with the green vest, is partially based on an outfit that the actual James Tanner had worn when he was studying in high school.
