Custom Chain Devil, Glamour Bard
Looking for: a good time
Setting: Ravnica, Cult of Rakdos (Formerly: Azorius, Orzhov)
Zagan is currently a star performer in the Cult of Rakdos having a wonderful time maiming and murdering people on stage during his performances as a singer. He is originally from a prestigious old money family in Azorius and started his days as a human lawyer and oration bard in that guild. His mother Jalna was a revered judge and he adored her. Zagan has always known he would live forever, so when he hit his 40s he made an extremely carefully worded pact with a devil named Yxaga in exchange for a specified amount of service to her guild Orzhov.
Unfortunately, Zagan has always been a nasty little man, and his world comes tumbling down around him when his revivify spell fails during a particularly brutal ‘interrogation’ and he is quickly arrested for murder along with a host of other crimes related to brutality in the workplace. Bad news: being a rich asshole in prison is not a good thing to be, and Zagan only lasts about three days before he’s brutally murdered (don’t feel bad for him he deserves it)
He comes back as a devil under the name of Davok, hiding his identity to avoid the repercussions of his crimes but is quickly recognized by his former boss/bffwb Vuukal as well as his mother.
Zagan serves his promised time in Orzhov, slowly growing increasingly bored and vicious among the bad influence of the immortals around him and begins going to Rakdos performances where he meets an eladrin glamour bard named Asanu. Asanu quickly courts his favor, inviting him to partake of the indecent pleasures the Cult of Rakdos has to offer.
After a messy not-breakup with Vuukal, Zagan eventually joins the cult and learns the ways of a glamour bard from Asanu. They become an on again off again power couple and quickly rise through the ranks. At Asanu’s encouragement Zagan makes the biggest mistake of his life and accepts a position as a blood witch. He has regretted it ever since he finds every aspect of it horrifically annoying and boring. He does, however, enjoy that he’s getting recognition for his work in seducing innocents from other guilds to knowingly come be part of his performances where they are murdered as part of the show. This gains him renown and favor among the guild, though not quite as much elsewhere.
After a few centuries of this, Zagan eventually meets Henry, and ill-tempered scientist from Simic who has come to the Rakdos guildhall seeking infernal body parts for his research. Zagan strikes up a deal with him, simply out of curiosity and the rest is history. The two quickly become involved and roughly a century later Zagan loses his shit about Henry not being immortal, and convinces the man to sign a deal with him where his soul is promised to Zagan in exchange for immortality. It takes them decades after this to acknowledge they’re even in a relationship but they do eventually fumble their way into marriage.
Zagan has many other contacts throughout the city, but his favorite is beloved local doctor and funky little man Rene, who in his spare time is a great old one warlock.
