Profile
Born in an underwater settlement off the coast of Waterdeep, Calypso's father was a soldier of the city's underwater protectors - meaning that even as an aquatic elf she was exposed to Faerûnian culture as a child. Often inspired by the art and music she heard on the surface, she trained as a bard under the College of Swords - one of the few sea elves in her settlement to learn magic. Although having to return to the ocean periodically, she spend years exploring Waterdeep and trying to learn as much about the world as she could. Often staying in Deepwater Harbor, she befriended plenty of merfolk, elves, and humans, overall entranced by the diversity of the world.
Wishing to explore more of Faerûn, Calypso swam South towards Baldur's Gate - another city she'd heard tales of and, being close to the coast, would be easy for her to access. Along the way she stopped onshore and heard word of a local druid grove, venturing towards it in hopes of finding ways to stay on the surface for longer. However along the way Calypso was abducted by illithids and brought onto a nautaloid ship, where she was infected with a mind flayer tadpole.
Upon the crashing of the nautiloid, Calypso thankfully managed to land in the water - saving her life. But as she made her way ashore, she realized that the negative effects of prolonged air exposure had gone away - a side effect of her tadpole. Along her confused trek towards the Emerald Grove, she ran into a small group of travelers led by a tiefling named Crelia. Finding that they were all in the same predicament, she joined the group, hoping to find answers to what had happened to them.
