MagicLight magic. Red color. His magical weapon is a scimitar. He can heal, but isn't very good. He can make "red ice" out of his magic, which is pretty solid and looks crystalline. He has enchantment magic, though he hides this from others, fearing that if others found out they'd make him use it for unsavory purposes. He can transform into a scarlet tanager.
FearsCats, snakes, rejection
HandednessAmbidextrous

Family: Smoke- mother (deceased). Smoke was the monarch before him. She died when he was six, leaving the kingdom to him to rule instead of his older sister due to an argument. He doesn't really remember her, just that she seemed powerful, and rather manic. And that he will never be able to fill her shoes.
Regen- father (deceased). His father died while he was still an egg. He was told that his father was a very meek and timid man, but with a heart of gold.
Quartz- wife. He married Quartz due to an arranged marriage set up by his sister, Gold. At first he didn't care, marriages to those you don't love are often common. But, he soon discovered her cruelty.
Silver- former wife. He married Silver a few years after Quartz, being married to both at the same time. Silver came to the castle seeking knowledge, and quickly stole Vermillion's hearts. Soon after the marriage, Silver gave birth to the triplets: Cyan, Scarlet, and Ebony. When they were three, she left. It was only later that Vermillion realized why, she had never loved him in the first place. He feels bitter about her, and also lonely, as he did genuinely love her.
Gold- older sister. Gold should've been the rightful heir, but their mother switched the role to Vermillion in a fit of rage at Gold. By accident, she died soon after, making Vermillion the ruler. Gold never forgave their mother or Vermillion for this (even though he had no say in this). Since Vermillion was only six at the time, she made the decisions for him, and that's the way most things remained. They resent each other, but there is no hate.
Sunshine- eldest daughter. He loves Sunshine more than anybody else, though he does feel bad about this because it's wrong to have favorite children. Nobody can cheer him up like her, or is so innocent. He was terrified of being a father when she was born, but her sweetness made it worth it.
Scarlet- daughter. Out of his four children, he spent the least amount of time with her, clearly seeing that she did not like him. But, he does recognize her strengths and believe in her potential.
Cyan- daughter. They aren't close. Cyan doesn't really care about him, though Vermillion would still do anything to protect her, and her siblings.
Ebony- son. Often they draw together, both being artists. He often feels guilty around Ebony, because of a preventable accident Ebony had as a child that left him scarred. He sees himself in Ebony, as both are seen as not enough by others.
three nieces/nephews

Miscellaneous: Pansexual technically. Particularly fond of phoenixes. Artistic.

Backstory: Vermilion became king of the avian kingdom far too young, and by complete accident (and some would argue, by mistake). His mother (Smoke), the former ruler appointed six year old Vermillion as heir to the throne instead of his adult sister in a fit of rage. Soon after, Smoke was accidently killed in a freak accident.  Since he was only six, Gold, his sister, made most of the decisions. Even after he became an adult, Gold still took the lead. Vermillion was okay with this, as he didn't believe in his own ability to rule on his own. He also saw that the citizens viewed him as weak, because he refused to build up the avian army like his mother and the previous rulers did. The decisions he did make were more society driven, such as banning the practice of surgery on infants.

He often goes on trips, loving exploring. He draws and maps out all he sees.
