Quintus

Quintus, then known as Grey, was born in the 14th century as the fifth child of a poor peasant family. He was abandoned at an orphanage when his parents could no longer support all their children. It was at the orphanage where he first encountered Snowe, and the two of them grew to become the closest of friends. Grey was quiet and shy, thus he was isolated and picked on by the other children. However, none of that concerned him for as long as he had Snowe, he was happy. 

When the children grew up, they were sent to work as servants in a nearby lord's castle. Due to his stoic nature, Grey was selected to become the executioner's apprentice, while Snowe earned the lord's favor and became his personal attendant. Grey's job was unrewarding and he was given no pay, but he didn't care as at the very least he could still be together with Snowe.  Soon, however, he began to realize that Snowe was growing very unhappy, yet his friend refused to speak of his troubles. Grey's suspicions grew until one day, he decided to shadow Snowe while he was performing his duties. It was then that he discovered the lord's perverse intentions towards Snowe. Enraged, Grey lashed out at the lord to protect his friend, only to find himself swarmed by guards and thrown into the dungeon. 

Grey was sentenced to two weeks in the dungeons, and would have received a much harsher punishment if Snowe had not pleaded with the lord to spare him. Snowe visited him frequently, and started to discuss a plan for the two of them to escape the lord's castle. It was decided that while the lord was away on a trip, Snowe would steal some of his jewelry and sell them to afford transportation out of the city. They then would flee the castle as soon as Grey's sentence was up.

Grey waited in anticipation for their plan to unfold. On the day of his release, however, Snowe did not make an appearance. Instead, the executioner merely brought him out to the courtyard to clean up the site of a grisly execution.  For Snowe had been caught in his theft and sentenced to death by a hateful courtier on the spot. In the lord's absence, no one dared to challenge the courtier's orders. Even Grey himself had been completely unable to protect his best friend. 

Overwhelmed by grief and rage, Grey drew a knife and struck down the executioner, followed by the courtier, before fleeing from the castle. He fled a long way on foot, and somehow managed to evade the soldiers in pursuit. Eventually, he managed to hitch a ride out of the city, and left the kingdom for good. 

Now left all alone, Grey swore to avenge Snowe's death by killing the lord that had caused their suffering. He started to eke out a living as a mercenary for hire, training himself into becoming a formidable fighter. He eventually earned a reputation as a notorious and unstoppable killer for he spared no one. He felt nothing but an all-consuming emptiness towards each life he took. 

Years later, Grey received an assassination order to kill his former lord. Ironically, this was the task that proved to be his undoing. As soon as his blade slit the lord's throat, he was surrounded by soldiers once more. He was killed on the spot, but he no longer cared to live, for he had at long last completed his vengeance for Snowe's death.

After his death, Grey was judged by the Reapers to suffer in hell for the rest of eternity to atone for his heinous deeds. However, the Queen of Hell, Arantia, saw his worth and stole his soul from the Reapers, turning him into a demon. Grey was assigned menial demonic tasks as first, such as making contracts with humans in exchange for their souls. Unlike most demons who vied for power and status, Grey had no such desires for he believed that he had already fulfilled his purpose in his human life. His sole wish was to see Snowe again, but he knew it was no more than a far-fetched fantasy. 

Grey's lack of greed piqued Arantia's curiosity, and she deemed him suitable to be her adviser for he seemed to have no personal agenda. Grey was thus awarded a new name and title, Quintus, the Archdemon of Time. For a long time, Grey remained stalwartly loyal to Arantia as she was now the person he was closest to. He followed her orders without question and killed anyone who opposed her.

As time went on, Quintus found himself getting tired of killing. He had spent his whole life killing, yet he only seemed to gain more and more enemies. He had thought that he would be at peace after avenging Snowe's death, but there seemed to be no way for him to escape from the bloodshed. While he knew that he had brought this fate upon himself, he was tired of demon society. He thus asked to be posted to earth to oversee demonic influence among humans. Arantia conceded to his request as a reward for centuries of unwavering servitude.  

Quintus bought an antique shop and started to live among humans again. He involved himself in as little conflict as possible, but on occasion, he would receive an interesting item, be it a haunted necklace or a cursed doll.  There were also times when he would come across other demons in the human realm, but he would simply pretend to be unaware of their existence. 

Yet, trouble could not stay away forever, for one day, his shop was graced by a young monster hunter by the name of Leo.
