The Engineer

Bisexual

Altair is the engineer of The Cosmo Express. If it weren't for him, the train wouldn't be able to move through the galaxy.

He doesn't interact with passengers often at all and for good reason. Altair is remarkably unapproachable, a grouchy man that has built a tough wall around himself and he'd be damned if he gave anyone a hammer. He is remarkably pessimistic and doesn't wish to have more conversation than he needs to. He is easily angered, especially by Astrophel. There is nobody he hates more.

"Listen to my advice, kid. The conductor is not to be trusted."

LIKES
  • Quiet
  • The views of space
  • Classical music
  • Simple comfort
  • Spicy food (Although he can't enjoy it anymore)

DISLIKES
  • His job
  • Astrophel.
  • Tight Spaces
  • The Dark
  • Kids (Or at least he says)

DESIGN
  • The galaxy markings on his body are wounds Astrophel healed.
  • He sometimes wears a wide brimmed hat! Not while he's driving though, too dangerous.
  • He often has his hair tied up. When it's down though, it reaches to his middle back.

TRIVIA
  • He actually has a soft spot for animals. He much prefers them to his colleague
  • There's a very incorrect rumour that he and Astrophel are dating. Mention it to Altair and it's a sure-fire way to get him riled up.
  • He spends a lot of his time when he's not driving staring out one of the train windows at the view.
  • He is very good at whistling and it's one of the things that calm him down.

STORY

Home Planet

Altair had a peaceful life on his home planet, having a close knit family and helping out at their family run store. However, to a teenage Altair, he thought this kind of life was boring, without any flavour and much unlike the awesome heroes he'd read about. That all changed, however, when a strange figure clad in purple breezed into his life, deciding to chat with him whilst he ran the shop for the day. Whislt he was remarkably annoying, he did manage to grab Altair's attention with the promise of one thing. Adventure. Hoping to learn more, the young boy followed him out the shop after closing.

What he didn't know, however, was that adventure meant committing almost every crime known on his planet. Astrophel promises he didn't know they were crimes, but can you really trust him? Altair certainly doesn't think so. Just as the authorities were about to catch the pair, The star vanished into thin air, leaving Altair all alone. He was punished with life within the most heavily guarded cell in their whole galaxy, a dark, cramped room with seemingly no escape.

Reunion

As Altair grew up, spending just under three decades within his four walled home, his resentment for Astrophel only festered. Why did they lure him into that mess? Why would he ever follow them? Why would they just disappear right at the last moment, leaving him in this hell. Altair had a long time to contemplate everything that had happened that day, there isn't much to keep ones attention in high security prison.

His life would change once more as, in the middle of his cell, the star appeared once again. He hadn't aged in the thirty years since their last meeting and, no matter how much Altair interrogated him, he answered none of his questions. He only gave a proposal. Astrophel would free him from his prison under one condition. He drives his new train. Altair was confused. A train? He didn't know how to drive a train. How would he get him out of the cell? It was guarded so heavily, there was surely no escape. No matter how many questions he asked, Astrophel answered none. Sitting in silence for a moment, Altair realised he didn't really have a choice. He shook the stars hand and the pair disappeared into thin air.

The Present

Altair now works on the train as the engineer, steering away from any kind of conflict and danger, keeping to himself in the divers cabin, along with The Fireman. As The Engineer, he is responsible for keeping the train driving through the galaxy. He hates his job, being forced to work it for all time and much more his boss but much more despises his boss.

RELATIONSHIPS

ASTROPHEL

Hated

Altair couldn't hate Astrophel enough. He hated his casual attitude to horrible things, his careless acts to those he views as less than him and his impact on his life. If he could be free of him, he would.

Faye

Friends

As much as he would refuse to admit it, Altair views Faye like a daughter, feeling as though it is his responsibility to protect her from the horrors of the express and Astrophel's deadly nature. Although he is well aware she is a lot smarter and more aware than her persona lets on, he seems to deny it, viewing her as his child in his eyes. He enjoys spending time with her and would do anything to protect her.

Cassiopeia

Accquaintenes

Altair feels sorry for the child and wishes nothing but the best for them. They try not to interact too much with the child but does warn them regarding The Conductor. He is very adamant to stand up to Astrophel regarding their safety, even if it endangers himself
