"Breathe straight through the crisp air"

Combat

Emile works as an amateur frontliner in monster hunting, both as a grappler and a spear user. As the monsters he confronts are aggressive creatures, his approach to hunting often relies on the dogs and him growling as an opening move. With the monster intimidated, he proceeds with some stragetic spear thrusts and grappling when the long range approach fails to bear fruit. If push comes to shove, Emile doesn’t hesitate to bite alongside the dogs, though he prefers to keep it as a last resort from self-consciousness.

He wears a chain mail, completed with additional leather protection for vital and sensitive points, as well as gauntlets that leave the last two phalanges of each finger free of movements, while still being covered by a fingertip-less leather glove. His equipment is meant to provide protection while still preserving his freedom of movement and his sense of touch. It also has the advantage of being quite cheap.

FIVE KEYWORDS

LUCILE DELCURE

Short insight into his relationship with Lucile. Son ange, son sauveur. Émile n’est pas religieux, mais s’il devait s’agenouiller pour quelqu’un, ce ne serait pour plus personne d’autre que Lucile.

THREE DOGS

Explanation of the importance each dog has. One is much younger than the other two, Lucile having brought it home as a gift for Emile. Emile even got to name it.

FREAK SHOW

Explain the lasting impact his childhood in a freak show had on him. Mention of his bilateral knee arthosis.

FAMILY

Small blurb on his biological family? How they're kobold slaves made to breed through drugging, only to have their children sold in slave markets.

VISUAL ACUITY

Explain that Emile doesn't have the greatest visual acuity, and that glasses never helped him. While it doesn't impact his work, it renders certain activities difficult, such as reading. This is due to a lack of a fovea in his eyes, a genetic trait that runs in some Kobold bloodlines.

Get to know him better

1. What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do?

Emile is unable to sit still with nothing to do for much more than a few minutes. After some time, he will inevitably start to fidget, pick at his claws, lick his nose and wiggle his legs.

2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?

Laughing comes easily to Emile, though part of it results from social conditioning rather than genuine glee. He also tends to laugh from nervousness.

3. How do they put themselves to bed at night (reading, singing, thinking?)

Emile likes to smell the night air before heading to bed, after he brushed his teeth. He is surprisingly adamant about keeping his mouth clean and his breath as fresh as possible by getting rid of any food residue. Whenever he can, he goes on a short night walk in a quiet environment, though he can settle with the simple act of sticking his head outside an open window for a few minutes. Due to this little ritual of his, Emile tends to have trouble falling asleep when dungeon dwelling. The air feels oppressive, down there.

4. How easy is it to earn their trust?

Despite his conciliating nature, it isn’t particularly easy to earn Emile’s trust. Only Lucile owns it fully.

5. How easy is it to earn their mistrust?

While it takes time to earn Emile’s trust, it is just as difficult for him to lose all faith in someone; Emile likes to believe in the goodness of people. Every action, as morally reprehensible as it may be, happens for a reason. After all, he is aware that he isn’t the only one with a heavy past.

6. Do they consider laws flexible, or immovable?

When left to his own devices, Emile prefers to stick to the laws, but if someone were to ask him to perform some illegal act… Chances are that Emile would waver.
