Profile

Saint-Caecilia, once a great city, flourished as destination of many pilgrims who came to visit its great relics. However, following invasions by pillagers, they were robbed of the precious artefacts which for so long had defined their identity and economy. The state's ties with religious organizations diminished, whilst it aimed for other more secular methods to restore itself to its former fame, albeit with the "Saint" in its name being abandoned (retaining only "Caecilia", as changing an entire city's name proved far too challenging). Despite these past raids, the city still retains many relics and texts, albeit now securely held to prevent such incidents from happening ever again. Their resting places turned from shrines welcoming all to private vaults, so notoriously and reliably secure its not uncommon for citizens and even outsiders to store their own valuables in them, provided they can afford the high rates the state charges.

This added security spread out throughout the city as a whole, with the local watch's authority suffocating the atmosphere with their own oppressive atmosphere, poisoned by the fumes of their spent fuel: one of the many branches the city had striven down towards were technological advancements free of magic and faith, especially those geared towards increasing defenses and monopolizing violence. This police-heavy regime has now earned Caecilia the name of "City of the Blind" to outsiders, as the local populace remain content with their brains dulled by a fear of foreigners and of their history repeating itself, ignoring the price paid by their privacy and liberty.
