Basics

"Look at this rad TV show I found!"

Elliot de Maudeville seems like a quirky teen - around 19 years old - with a sunny disposition and a fondness of really bad puns and obscure pop culture references.

He also happens to be a vampire and was born around 2000 BC in what would one day be known as Scotland. He's seen a lot, done a lot, yet remains as upbeat and annoyingly cheerful as ever. Very fond of humans, very fond of technology, very fond of being a flirtatious, goofy, punny pain in the butt.

Also happens to be the guy who turned Gus into a vampire by accident.

Details

Elliot is short and skinny but looks a lot more toned than you'd probably expect. Which, granted, isn't saying much.

He's got a cutesy, soft, youthful oval face with a hint of cheekbones. Elliot smiles easily, frequently, and quite broadly, in a way that lights up his entire face - and puts his vampire teeth on full display.

His hair is straight, soft, lightweight and very silky.

Elliot usually favors dark grey clothing - particularly turtleneck sweaters (some people assume he's subconsciously copying Gus with that - he himself refuses to comment on it) and t-shirts.

When he feels like it, Elliot is perfectly capable of presenting himself in a way that befits his status as one of the oldest and most powerful vampires of the west.

Elliot rarely feels like it.

Instead, he usually appears to be a cheery, optimistic, happy-go-lucky, easily distracted young man, who takes great joy in pretty much everything about the world around him. He's carefree, enthusiastic, and clearly constantly having the time of his life.

His airheadedness and frequently presumed lack of competence is an act - mostly because being underestimated seems to amuse him - his carefree and loving personality, however, is very likely just the way he is - though he may exaggerate a little, just for fun. Gotta get one's kicks somehow after being alive since the dawn of history.

Gus assumes that said carefree personality is the only thing that's keeping him (reasonably) sane, and is likely the sole reason why he has survived for so long.

Somewhat unusually for a vampire, especially one that's so ancient, Elliot seems to be genuinely benevolent, views unnecessary violence with disdain, and does his very best to do no harm.

Elliot is also very fond of sex, and can frequently be found chatting up cute guys - however, he is always perfectly honest about his motives, his expectations for any ensuing relationships, and his vampire-ness, and he's generally on excellent terms with the overwhelming majority of his sexual partners. He's super into communication and informed consent, thinks sex should be fun first and foremost, and takes romantic relationships uncharacteristically very seriously.

Elliot was born in approximately 2000 BC in what would one day become Scotland. He was turned into a vampire when he was somewhere between 18 and 20 years old - the vampire who turned him was relatively young and inexperienced and was attempting to turn as many people as possible to build his own vampire clan with himself as the chief. Elliot never saw him before, and the only reason why he was chosen in particular is that he was caught alone and sleeping.

That whole vampire clan thing didn't work out so well - there was a lot of infighting, and Elliot eventually left to forge his own path. For the next several millennia, he usually sought out highly developed cultures to hang out with - humanity and their constant drive to change and improve fascinated him. His own personal favorite was his time in the Roman empire - he lived in Rome for centuries. Never before or after would Elliot stick around in one place for that long.

When vampires eventually transformed from drifting loners into something with social structures and founded a system of local, territorial vampire societies, Elliot was one of the very few vampires who elected to remain neutral, eschewing a chance at power and influence in favor of a nomadic lifestyle.

His fortunes eventually changed in 1770, when he accidentally turned young Augustus von Langenstein into a vampire after being chased and cornered by vampire hunters and having to flee to Vienna.

Elliot was immediately attracted to Gus, but also quickly realized how ill-suited the pretty young nobleman was for life as a vampire, and just how badly he'd fucked up. He spent the next 150 years trying to make amends, becoming close but also very platonic friends with Gus in the process.

Eventually, he ended up in Germany in the 1930's and 40's, and promptly was captured and experimented on by the nazis, after he'd made a bet with Gus that German politics would definitely stabilize and nobody could possibly fuck up that badly.

Cue Elliot being stuck in an abandoned bunker for the next 70 years.

Eventually, Gus and Jaime dig him up again - after Gus spent the entire 70 years looking for Elliot - and Elliot gets catapulted from the 40's directly into the 2010's - and oh goodness does he have fun with that. From gay bars to video games, Elliot is utterly in love with modern society.

  • For all that nobody ever asked him if he wanted to become a vampire, Elliot sure does enjoy it a lot
  • He'll never stop feeling bad about accidentally ruining Gus' life
  • His sense of humor is terribly immature
  • laughs at dick jokes
  • loves memes
  • catches on to current cultural trends very quickly; uses that to be as cringy as he can manage
  • goes from "what are video games" to "fucking nerd" in .5 days, approximately
  • Really loves Civilisation V and Mass Effect
  • Also, Assassin's Creed amuses him endlessly, even though he finds the games somewhat disorienting - he's personally familiar with most of their settings, and it throws off his in-game sense of direction a lot - not to mention that he ends up hysterically cackling about their portrayal of historical characters a lot.
  • Owns a 3D mousepad depicting an anime dude's butt.
  • Despite all of the above, Elliot is an EXTREMELY powerful vampire.
  • Doesn't remember his family, his early life, or his original name.
  • His memory actually isn't bad, but it's grown highly selective over the last few millennia
  • Rarely interested in the wider political scope; more focused on details - pretty likely to point at the bust of an ancient Roman emperor and go "I remember that fucker, he insulted my hair".
  • I Love You, Vampire Son: Has a very enduring massive crush on Gus, but respectfully keeps his distance. A bit too much, perhaps - Gus really wouldn’t have minded the occasional hug.
  • Badass Gay: Very gay, very open about it and a total and complete badass.
  • Romantic Vampire Boy: slightly atypical, because he’s a pretty unusual vampire, and looking for a bit of fun just as much as love… but he’s really quite sincere regarding both of that and genuinely incredibly nice to everybody he dates and/or sleeps with. He’s incredibly fond of people, social interactions, flirting and sex.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Occasional bits of Blue and Orange Morality aside.
  • Curtains Match The Window: blonde hair, yellow eyes. Counts, right?
  • Let’s Get Dangerous: Uses his plentiful powers mainly as Mundane Utilities and spends his days playing video games and otherwise catching up on mass media since the mid-1930′s. A bright, optimistic and chipper idealist with a great fondness for humankind. Also happens to be the most powerful vampire alive, and truly ancient. When Elliot decides to step in and do stuff, shit hits the fan.
  • Beware The Nice Ones: A bubbly, friendly, chipper young fellow. Don’t piss him off, he’s perfectly able to kick your ass to hell and back - he doesn’t only have supernatural strength and speed, he also has 4000 years of fighting experience. He literally served in Julius Caesar’s army. Do not fuck with Elliot.
  • Pro-Human Transhuman: Vampire; loves humanity a lot, because humanity is always changing, being innovative, revolutionizing everything… vampires, on the other hand, tend to be a pretty static bunch, largely resistant to change and very much afraid of it.
  • Casting a Shadow: Has some relatively vague “shadow powers” that are fairly varied, usually have something to do with shadowy tendrils and really fuck with the laws of physics. They used to be par for the course for vampires, but were lost over the generations and now there are only very few vampires with shadow powers left.
Relationships

2604863?Gus

Elliot accidentally turned Gus into a vampire. Elliot also has a huge-ass crush on Gus. He claims that those things aren't related. Gus absolutely hated the guy for a few years, but the eventually struck up an odd friendship and spent the next 190 years essentially living together most of the time. Eventually, Elliot vanished, presumably because something terrible happened to him, and Gus has spent the last 70-odd years looking for him, on the off-chance that he's still alive.
