He doesn't really go out of his way to fight, although if he is attacked, he will respond without mercy. His magic reacts very quickly when he is in danger. He relies solely on his magic for defense.

Backstory

When Feris was a child he was a subject of magic experimentation ordered by his father (his father saw that Feris had exceptional magic ability at a young age and assumed that if he made Feris' magic even stronger, it would ensure his bloodline to stay on the throne). Feris would have likely become a powerful mage regardless, but this is most likely lead to his unnatural magical strength. He used to have black hair and red eyes, which is very typical of a demoin person, but after an accident happened during one of his father's test, the magic inside of Feris "exploded" outward. the force of the magic killed many of the mages aiding his father, and severely injured his father, who died several years later.

The accident physically affected Feris, his hair turned silver and his eyes a pale blue (most likely due to his affinity with ice magic). His father succeeded with making Feris' magic stronger, he was more in tuned with the magic within him, and was able to easily master other elements, although for many years his magic was also very volatile, as it took some time for him to learn how to control his power. It came at a cost though, because his mind became more infused with magic essence, he lost some of that connection with his body. His movements became delayed and were slower. Although he could still physically move at a normal pace with a lot of focus, the actions were still delayed and would make him exhausted very quickly. Feris was 8 years old when the accident occurred.

His life changed drastically, unable to keep up with activities like learning swordsmanship, Feris spent most of his time receiving education and magic tutoring. Rumors spread through the castle, accusing Feris of attempting to murder the king (because Feris’ physical change and the King’s severe injuries coincided, of course the experiments were top secret so no one knew it was actually the King’s fault), those unaware of his previous appearance called him a bastard prince, others called him a fake prince, saying he was a stand in for the true prince who seemingly vanished. Although Feris could ignore the falsehoods spread about him, the rumors spread outside of the castle and the people he gained a rather bad reputation among his people.

When he was 10, two servants were goofing around and chunking an apple back and forth in a courtyard on the castle grounds. One threw the apple too high for the other to catch, and Feris, who happened to be passing by was in its path. Although he tried, he was physically incapable to catch the apple in time and instinctively relied on his magic. He stopped the apple, his magic making it shatter into pieces of ice, and unable to control the force of the magic, the courtyard was covered in snow and ice. The two servants were uninjured, but they were terrified, and a new host of rumors spread accusing him of being wrathful and quick to anger.

Feris’ father, the king, died when he was 13, succumbing to permanent damage caused during the accident that even healing magic couldn’t fix. He was blamed for his father death by many, even though it was publicly announced that the king died of a chronic illness. Within the month, Feris was crowned as next king. He was feared by many, and it only became worse as failures caused the lords trying to control ended being blamed on Feris (despite Feris doing what he could to lessen the impact of some of the idiotic laws they were trying to enact)

He looks rather young and is often mistaken for a teenager/young person.

He's fine when speaking to just one person, since he can be given time for his body to give him a chance to speak without interrupting the other person. He tends to be quiet in group conversations, since the gaps tend to be small and he hates when his body finally catches up and ultimately interrupts someone else.

He is technically married, its a political marriage set by those who were trying to manipulate him and there were no vows actually exchanged between him and his "wife". He has no interest in her and has ignored her advances. The court just wanted him to produce an heir so they could have an excuse to get rid of him, but his continue refusal of her was the tipping point for the court to decide to remove him from power (there were a lot of other reasons, but they were fed up with his stubbornness in following there orders)
