Eiji has lived in Hokkaido his whole life, having met his best friend, Mimi, when the two both went to primary school together. Over the years, the two managed to become fast friends, their parents getting on as well as they had to set up play dates for their children. Throughout their schooling, Mimi and Eiji did their best to stick together, applying for the same high schools, and the same clubs, and spending a great deal of their free time together if they could. Eventually, their grades didn't quite match up anymore, with Eiji struggling to meet his parents', and his own expectations, and Mimi having to put little work in to exceed hers. It was only one class difference:  4 and 5, but it felt like a lot to friends who had always managed to stay together. 

During Eiji's first year at high school, his mother recieved a promotion opportunity in her company, but the promotion involved a transfer to America for a year. His father managed to get a transfer of his own put in so he could move with her, but though Eiji was offered the opportunity to join them, he didn't want to leave his life and his best friend behind for a foreign country whose language he could barely speak. Because it was meant to only be a year, Eiji's parents allowed him to stay, sending money to his bank account every month to support him. However, his mother was very successful in America, and one year became two--Eiji insisted on staying in Japan still, wanting to at least finish his high school education there and learn English before he had to uproot his life to live there. Begrudgingly, his parents accepted that as well. They skype him often--at the very least, once a week, and either visit for holidays or pay for Eiji's travel expensives so he can visit, but it still doesn't compare to having his parents truly with him.

During his second year of high school, Eiji started to rebel more--his grades slipped further, and he started picking up on bad habits, such as smoking and drinking. They weren't uncommon for high schoolers, but for Eiji, a boy who had always been a stickler for following the rules and thinking before you acted, they seemed like blaring red flags to Mimi. He prioritized parties over his schoolwork until his grades started to really slip, and his teachers warned him that he would likely be moved to class 3 if he didn't show improvement soon. Though Mimi worried about him, his parents seemed to be nonethewiser, obviously unable to attend any parent-teacher conferences from America. Though Eiji had acted out for their attention in the first place, he managed to turn his act around once his third year started to get closer, with Mimi's help. Running for student council herself, Mimi encouraged him to use his newfound popularity with their peers to run for student council as well. Wanting to reconnect with his best friend and do something productive again, especially for the school's benefit, Eiji agreed, and won the vote to be the class president.

His third year was off to a much better start than his first and second--and he wasn't surprised when his parents had decided they would be staying in America longer, either, although he couldn't say he wasn't disappointed. Striving to be as successful as his parents, Eiji poured his efforts into improving his grades, studying his English, and doing his best for the Student Council to try and improve the school and improve the time his fellow students have there. 

Personality

Eiji is somewhat of a mixed back personality-wise, not really fitting into any specific tropes or character arcetypes. Though he is very serious about his future and wants to follow in his parents' footsteps as a businessman, he isn't overly serious, and can often be rather playful. He is passionate about his school, takes his grades seriously, and works hard to study, but that isn't the beginning and ending of his life, either.

As the Student Council President, Eiji has a good rapport with his classmates, some of which ties back to the days where he spent more time partying than studying, but the point still stands that he is personable and friendly--something that mostly contradicts the stereotypical way class presidents are often portrayed. Though he is mostly agreeable, he does find troublemakers irritating, and tends to believe rumors or preconcieved notions about other classmates (such as Kaito) without getting a chance to know them--which is especially ironic, considering how much he dislikes the fact that some of his classmates still see him as a delinquent, whether for his past, or for the earrings he still wears from that time. 

Living on his own for going on three years has given Eiji a sense of maturity, able to travel alone without nerves, manage basic budgeting, and plan around his club activities and school work with relative ease. But living alone has also made Eiji rather lonely, as well. When he was little, his parents kept journals and scrapbooks to chronicle family vacations as well as important events, and when Eiji's parents transferred, they suggested he keep one so they would be able to hear about his year alone when they came back. Though they've yet to come back, keeping the daily journal has become a bit of a ritual for Eiji, although at some point, he realized the journals have become something more for himself than his parents. Also having interest in origami, Eiji has taken to tearing out particularly good pages from his journal and folding them up into paper cranes. He keeps them all over his empty house as reminders of happy times when the loneliness gets to him.

• though there are a few ways to write eijis given name, the kanji for his name (永次) means "eternity, next"
• his surname (春野) means "spring field"
• very fond of physical affection; likes to be picked up and carried around and doesn't find it embarrassing or degrading at all, literally just goes limp and enjoys the ride. he obviously likes other comfort as well
• when he is nervous or stressed, he plays with is bangs, usually tugging a longer piece near the middle or just generally fiddling with them and constantly fixing them
