About
Auberon Herbert Zhang is Agatha’s dog and a member of the Paraffin Investigative Co. He is an Old English Sheepdog puppy who grows to adulthood over the course of the story.
Personality
Unlike other members of his breed, Auberon is an introverted and sleepy dog, and he spends most of his time napping in either Agatha’s house or the office of Agatha’s café. He is mellow and even-tempered, getting along easily with most people. He is also family-oriented and protective of his owners.
His inner dialogue, which is shared exclusively with readers and fellow animals, portrays a slight sardonic streak. He has some commentary to spare about the habits of the people around him. He is also rather intelligent and capable of insight, allowing him to aid in solving mysteries with the rest of the agency.
Appearance
Auberon has a white shaggy coat with a dark grey patch throughout his body. His black, beady eyes can be seen peeking through his fur, though they are eventually covered up as he ages. He wears an orange dog collar with a round yellow bell.

History
Auberon was born on 13 January 2011 from a litter of 11. For the first eight weeks of his life, he was taken care of by his mother and breeders. Unlike his more active siblings, he spent most of his days sleeping. He was adopted by Agatha Donohoe and her housemate Faiza Arifin in March 2011 and subsequently joined the Paraffin Investigative Co. along with the former.

Owners
Agatha
His main owner. He is very attached to her and often stays by her side. She views him as a son, and in turn, he views her as a mother.
Faiza
His other owner. He loves her as well, but her drinking habits worry him. Nevertheless, he’s always there to comfort her.
Evelyn
Agatha’s daughter. They enjoy a friendly relationship. She often tells him stories and imitates him, which amuses him greatly.
Henry
Agatha’s older son. They also have a friendly relationship, and they bond by quietly observing each other and their surroundings.
Teddy
Agatha’s younger son. They often converse with each other through coos and barks. They also enjoy sleeping next to each other.
The Paraffin Investigative Co.
Lintang
The founder of the investigative agency and Faiza's younger brother. He considers him a useful ally due to his intelligence and ability to sniff out clues.
Chase
A fellow member of the agency. They do physical activities together often, and he even lets his children play with him.
Vivienne
A fellow member of the agency. They are friendly with each other most of the time, though her habit of stealing his treats annoys him.
Elroy
A fellow member of the agency. They share a very close relationship, as he was the one who helped Agatha train him.

One of Agatha’s backyard chickens. He views him with curiosity and asks him about his relationship with Henrietta.

Another one of Agatha’s backyard chickens. He guards her eggs from thieves and foxes.

- He was named after two individuals whom Agatha had lost: her pet duck Herbert and her husband Henry.
- His first name was derived from Agatha Googling ‘herbert duck’ before naming him. Originally, his name would have been Herbert Jr.
- His favourite treat is pumpkin pie.
- He loves Agatha so much that he counts Agathas to fall asleep.
- His dreams revolve around an alternate world where humans turn into animals and vice versa. In his dream, he works as a private investigator ala Ace Ventura.
- Before he realises what alcohol is, he assumes Faiza has a habit of drinking juice that makes her act funny.
- He has an uncanny ability to detect strange flora and fauna.
- He smells like milk and cookies until he gets wet.
- Chase sometimes picks him to be on his team instead of Lintang when playing cricket, much to the latter’s annoyance.
