Toothpaste's Links
He's her “little brother” and best friend. She feels responsible for him like a parent (and she technically is one). Sometimes it's difficult to be both a friend and a guardian, because it can be hard to know when she has to stop being fun and start being responsible. As a result, she can flip flop from concerningly permissive to incredibly overbearing very quickly.
She feels incredibly guilty over having stolen his egg and raised him, but she keeps it a secret, even as it continues to wear on her.
She's his “big sister” and best friend. He looks up to her as his guardian and loves her company as a friend. He thinks of her a lot like a mom too, but he doesn’t call her that out loud.
However, as he ages, he seeks more independence and is becoming increasingly annoyed at Toothpaste's more overbearing traits. He is not aware of the circumstances of his origin and has so far not pushed Toothpaste enough for her to tell him the full truth, but that may change in the future.
Hermes is one of Toothpaste's best friends. They're incredibly close, but she's always been one to tease him. She doesn’t usually mean anything by it since that’s just how she shows she considers people to be close. She had confided in him when she decided to raise Hoover (even if the two initially fought over the decision), and the two even temporarily coparented Hoover together.
Even though she picks on him, she means well and does indeed trust him as her closest friend. Though she hasn’t yet realized how much she’s been hurting him ever since their massive fight all those years ago, and the two are slowly starting to drift apart.
Toothpaste is one of his best (of very few) friends, but he gets picked on for being a bit of a doormat. He tries not to let it get to him that much because he knows it’s a joke, but sometimes he will dwell on it.
They used to be an inseparable duo when they were younger, and while they remain close, there is some distance between them now.
He will support her as her friend but will still doubt some of her decisions. However due to a previous incident, he doesn’t often let his more serious concerns about them be known if he thinks it’ll actually upset her or cause her to blow up on him again. This sometimes means he’ll knowingly let her make bad choices for the sake of sparing her (and his) feelings.
Lynn is one of Toothpaste's newer friends, but they are still extremely close regardless. The two met when Toothpaste and Hoover first moved to Splatsville, and Lynn was a great help in getting them accustomed to the city.
Toothpaste often leaves Hoover in the care of Lynn when she can't watch him, and she's happy to see how well the two get along. Even though they often get themselves into trouble, she hopes they will be a good influence on Hoover.
Lynn considers Toothpaste to be a very good friend. They like their energy and always seem to have fun when they hang out. Deep down though, Lynn can't help but worry for her a bit. They've picked up on some of Toothpaste's issues, even the ones she tries to hide from everyone. But even Lynn doesn't know everything. They've tried reaching out, but Toothpaste remains closed off. Lynn still tries to help in any way they can.
Toothpaste has a complicated relationship with Crest. Though on the surface, she absolutely despises her. Despite their intimate physical relationship, their emotional relationship is anything but.
Toothpaste is insanely jealous of Crest, and has developed quite the inferiority complex. Toothpaste always seems to be at Crest's throat, and she never looks particularly happy to be around her. She takes all her frustration out on Crest, getting angry with her for anything and everything, even if it has absolutely nothing to do with her. Toothpaste is constantly looking to escape the stress and fear in her life, and is willing to replace that fear with literally any other emotion, even anger. So they continue to lash out, since they don’t know what else to do.
Despite how much it makes her hate herself afterwards, they always finds themself crawling back to her. She wants to hate her, but can’t bring herself to fully, and she wants to love her, but knows she’ll never be able to in the way she thinks Crest wants. She's become far too attached to Crest despite everything. At this point, losing Crest would probably destroy her.
Weird lesbian situationship.
Crest doesn’t really have anything against Toothpaste. She thinks they’re entertaining, even when they’re taking all their anger out on her. She also knows how Toothpaste feels about her and loves to feed into it. Crest teases her and plays at their supposed "rivalry" often. She admittedly finds it fun to see her so frustrated. Even though the relationship isn’t romantic and is purely physical, Crest doesn’t really mind. Crest does actually love Toothpaste romantically, at least a little bit, but is somewhat mostly willing to accept that they can’t feel the same. They're still into each other in a weird way despite that.
Toothpaste very much hates Stetson. He's her boss but that doesn't mean she respects him at all. She's more scared of him than anything, but fear and hatred isn’t respect. Despite this, she'll still make her dislike for him known, sassing him and pushing back often.
She still usually begrudgingly does what he asks her to do though, since she doesn't want to get fired or punished.
It is hard to gauge Stetson's actually feelings about Toothpaste, since he doesn't really seem to treat her that much better or worse than he treats anyone else. He doesn’t particularly respect her as a person, but that’s honestly the case for most people around him.
He very much does not like being disrespected by her though, and he probably won't just take it forever.
Toothpaste is fairly neutral on Miki and Cloche. They can be fun to talk to, but she dislikes how they constantly talk about Stetson so positively.
She also thinks the two lack agency and should stop being so obsessive over Stetson since she thinks he absolutely sucks, but she won’t say that to their faces.
Miki and Cloche think Toothpaste is silly, and don't actually hold any contempt for her themselves. However, when Stetson is upset with her, they will mirror the same sentiment. They will also fervently defend Stetson if Toothpaste ever lets any of her grievances slip.
Toothpaste thinks Rami is a mildly interesting character, and he's a lot nicer to her than Stetson is. She usually finds herself gravitating towards them when she has to work.
She can't really talk with her about ink battles though, as Rami doesn’t seem to like them. Rami’s passive aggressive remarks about the frivolity of ink battles definitely get on her nerves. If the two weren't co-workers, it's unlikely that they would get along.
Rami is friendly with Toothpaste in the same way he’s friendly with most people. Rami loves hearing stories so will listen to Toothpaste talk as she works. She doesn't particularly care for stories about ink battles though and will brush her off when the topic arises.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS??"
(You're not getting your $45 back)
"I'm more trans + your shirt is ridiculous + you owe me $45"
A potentially unlikely pairing, Toothpaste met Luci at a particularly turbulent time in her life. Struggling with her ongoing relationship with Crest but unwilling to open up to her usual group of friends, she finds herself venting her frustrations to Luci quite often. The two have more in common than it may appear, so they're able to relate to each other quite well. Luci's experience and general chill demeanor is a much-needed source of comfort for Toothpaste, and ideally their relationship will help her work through some of her current issues..
Luci likes TP quite a bit, they find her cute, sweet, and charming, albeit pitying her a little. Living a listless and easygoing life, running away from the things that haunt them, Luci has a sense of worry for TP's more hectic, stressful life but keeps himself at a distance as to not let too much about themselves be known. Still, all things considered, Luci enjoys TP's presence and chatting with her, charmed by her outgoing and exaggerated demeanor, and they're happy to help TP feel less discomforted if they can.
Toothpaste and Iota have not met each other in person, but they’re more connected than you’d think.
Toothpaste is currently in possession of Iota’s discarded Hero Headset.
Iota and Toothpaste have not met in person. Despite their odd level of similarities, it is very unlikely that they would get along at all if they were to meet. In fact, they’d probably hate each other.
The boys at the lab have been tellin' me there's this bootlegger hiding out in Splatsville. They've been searching for someone they could use as a mole so we know where to issue an arrest warrant, and they keep landing on this one Inkling who's seen runnin' around at night with unlabelled boxes. The funny thing is that their eye-witnessess say she smells like toothpaste! I've smelled a lot of new-fangled body sprays in my time with the force, but toothpaste is a whole new one. Lemme tell ya, my wife would be makin' me sleep on the couch if I used toothpaste deodorant!
So here I am, walking over to work like usual, right? All of the sudden, there's this HUGE waft of toothpaste in the air! I dunno why, but I caught mee totally off guard. I remember seeing this inkling with one of those salmonid thingies when I looked back to see where it might've came from, so I guess it must've come from her? I dunno, it was weird but I can't help but wonder why...
The Evil and Intimidating Blue. Always somehow manages to appear in the same places as Harbor by pure coincidence. They’re not even doing it intentionally, but somehow they always manage to show up, no matter how random the place. They probably have not noticed Harbor giving them the stink eye bc they’re #unobservant or off doing some other random stuff. She probably hasn’t even realized that she keeps running into the Same Guy, since they haven’t actually interacted.
His cowardice really shows here. Absolutely terrified of her despite never actually interacting or meeting her. All this stems from the "bird vibes" he gets from them which really unsettles him, so he avoids them every way he can (doesn't really work though). Somehow whenever he's dragged into the city by his friends she's always there and he freaks the hell out, silently that is (Cod forbid this guy acts properly ever). However you can clearly tell something's bugging him, it's them, they're what's bugging him. Whenever he notices them he's put on edge and is hyperaware of what they do, this just means he's staring at them for prolonged periods of time. This weirdo, I swear.
“?? Whose kid is this?? Why does Hoover keep bringing you over?? Stop putting bugs in my bed??”
