Backstory

- One night a wealthy couple heard a knock at their door, and were   surprised to see no one there. Just when the husband Mark was about to   close the door they heard the sound of an infant crying. The couple   looked down and were shocked to find a little girl with hair as white  as  snow wailing in a basket with nothing, but a heavy warm blanket and a   note with her. The wife Crystal immediately picked up the baby and  tired  to calm her down while Mark picked up the note and read it out  loud,  “Her name is Brooke, she’s a rare being known as an Inkdrain. She  can  not live where she was born and as much as I want to, I can not  care for  her. Her father is also a bad man who would kill her if he  found out  about her existence. Please, I beg you, take care of her and  give her  all the love I could not for she deserves it. P.S She  absolutely MUST  have ink or some form of paint in her diet to survive.”  At first the  couple didn’t know what to do, but they decided to keep  Brooke and raise  her as their own since they couldn’t have children  themselves and  desperately wanted a family.

- Brooke grew up  safe and happy, but  she couldn’t shake off the feeling that something  about her was  different and felt like she didn’t know who she really  was. Then shortly  after she turned seven, a beautiful woman who looked  so much like  Brooke started visiting her dreams and explained to Brooke  what she was  and that she was to be careful because of what a rare  being she was.  This same woman has visited Brooke in her dreams many  times to offer her  help, advise, or give her warnings about various  things since.

-  Brooke got her colors at the age of eight after  she discovered that she  loved to paint, but after weeks of not knowing  what to paint she looked  out her window and her breath was stolen at  the beauty before her. It  was the beginning of fall and the leaves were  beginning to change  colors. With a jolt of inspiration, Brooke decided  to paint the scenery  outside her window. A half an hour into her  painting, her mother walked  in to inform her that dinner was ready and  was dumbfounded to see her  daughter's hair had changed from snow white  to the three colors she has  now, but Brooke wasn’t afraid or shocked at  all and explained to her  mother that it was natural because of what  she was. Her mother didn’t  question how Brooke knew this information,  and because this change  didn’t seem to effect her health or change her  negativity she let the  issue go.

- Up until high school Brooke  was sheltered and had a  private tutor, however her father convinced her  mother to let her attend  a public school, making the argument that  Brooke couldnt stay cooped up  in their house forever, and that they  werent always going to be around  to protect her. So for the first time  for her Freshmen year Brooke  attended a nearby public school named  "Blue Roseway High"

-  Brooke was very shy and closed off the  first day at her new school until  at lunch when a girl her age  approached her and introduced herself and  tired to make a conversation  with her. Brooke being the shy and  untrusting person that she was  hesitated at first, but there was just  something about this girl Elora  her name was, that made Brooke trust her  and the two began talking.  Elora then invited Brooke to come sit with  her and her friend Dove and  Brooke surprising herself agreed. The three  girls quickly became best  friends, and dreamed and talked of going on  adventures and treasure  hunting, they even already had their team name  picked out: Team Dream,  which was the name Dove had come up with

-  During Brooke's  Junior year, Dove mysteriously disappeared without a  trace and was  never heard from again. This of course upset her and Elora  greatly but  the two never gave up hope that one day they would be  reunited with  their best friend.

- In her last year of high  school a new girl  named Rue the Panda joined their school. Rue was a  trouble maker who  had been expelled from her last school though no one  knew why, there  were only really bad rumors. At first Brooke had avoided  Rue like the  pledge, not liking the girl's nasty attitude towards  everyone. Yet  somehow Elora befriended the girl and pleaded with Brooke  to give her a  chance, but Brooke saw this as Elora trying to replace  Dove and  refused to play nice with Rue. That is until one day after  school  Brooke was standing on the side walk waiting for her ride home,  when  three guys from Brooke's class started messing with her and telling  her  that she needed to give them money because it was unfair that she  was  born into her money and didnt work for it. Brooke kept trying to  tell  the boys she didnt have any money, but the boys refused to let up.   Until Rue came along and told the boys to leave her alone. However the   boys just laughed and one of them put their hand on Rue’s shoulder,   smirked and was about to say something until Rue flipped him on his  back  then made him turn over on his stomach, and pulled his arm behind  his  back until he began crying and pleaded with her to let him go. Rue  did  and the three boys ran away. Brooke couldn’t stop thanking Rue, and  the  two began to talk and realized they had similar things in common  like  their love of flowers, until Brooke’s ride finally showed up to  take her  home.

Poor Elora was completely bewildered when she  came into  class the next day (the only one that all three of them  shared) and saw  Brooke and Rue sitting together talking and laughing.  Elora didn’t ask  what happened instead she smiled, sat with them and  joined in their  conversation.

- Once they graduated, Brooke and  Elora decided to  fulfill their dream and asked Rue if she would like to  join which she  accepted in a heart beat, Elora wanted to keep the same  name for their  team, but Brooke felt like it was wrong since Dove was  no longer with  them, and unfair to Rue not wanting her to feel like she  was just a  replacement, so together at Brooke’s house Elora, Rue, and  Brooke came  up with the name Team Gem instead.
