Profile

Physical Appearance

  • Shoulder-length pale green hair, usually messy
  • Amber eyes
  • Light brown skin
  • Medium in height
  • Relatively fit with a strong build from manual labor, although he's more scrappy than bulky
  • Numerous minor scars across body, mostly around his hands/arms

Clothing Style

Heath is initially seen mostly wearing the same handful of outfits every day since he doesn’t own that many clothes. Most of his outfits were plain, usually brown/tan/beige, and very worn out and tattered from frequent wear and manual labor. His clothes were often dirty from working in the stables, and he usually mended any tears on his own with whatever materials he could find.

At the start of Black Angel’s main arc, Heath is in a slightly better state of living and has more outfits to choose from, which are in better condition. His work outfits are still rather plain and more functional than stylish, and they are still mostly brown or black in color. The materials are more durable and include a lot of leather in his boots, gloves, or other protective gear.

He also is given a couple nicer outfits by Jerrik, which he only wears if he is not working (which is not frequent). Jerrik doesn’t like wearing shirts very often, so he gives Heath a lot of his unused tops. These include mostly long sleeved tops and some tunics. Jerrik has also gifted him some nicer boots and a few functional accessories, which are mostly ways to keep Heath’s hair up so it doesn’t get in the way while working.

Personality

Heath is a quiet and friendly young man who tends to keep himself out of the way of "more important people" and focuses on tending to the many dragons in the stables. Throughout his life, he's been treated as nothing more than a dirty stable boy who is mostly useless save for his abilities in handling and caring for the resting dragons of the demon hunters. Heath has been stuck in this role for so long that he thoroughly believes his place in life is at the bottom of the social ladder and should simply do his job quietly and remain as inconspicuous to the more "valuable" demon hunters as he possibly can. For this reason, his confidence and self worth are very low, and he has a lot of trouble interacting with others in any other way besides following orders. Most people avoid speaking with him on a personal level, so he's not very good at socializing and is very meek and passive in the presence of others. He is most comfortable on his own or simply being in the company of the dragons he tends to, who usually are more kind to him than their riders.

The few people that take the time to get to know Heath will find he is a very down to earth and gentle man who is a good listener and a loyal ally. He tends to be a little clingy and overly-interested in anyone who shows him kindness, mostly because he's not used to it and isn't that experienced at social interactions, but if you can get past some of his awkward behavior, then he is a very genuine and honest person to be around. He's very well liked among the dragons since he tends to their needs well and always works hard to make sure they are all comfortable, and he can be just as considerate and caring toward people who give him a chance. He often has trouble fully accepting any kindness or compliments since he believes himself undeserving, but regardless if he accepts it or not he will always be appreciative of and affectionate toward those who offer it to him.

  • Socially awkward, lacks confidence, and cannot assert or stand up for himself
  • Fully believes he is "lesser" than his superiors and tends to submit to his oppression and any nasty treatment of him
  • Tends to be clingy and overly trusting of those who offer him even the slightest amount of kindness

Backstory

Heath doesn't remember much about his parents, for when he was very young they were exiled from Ecquinox and stripped of their high ranks as demon hunters after sympathizing with demons. The two left him orphaned when they ventured off together to supposedly aid the demonic cause. For this reason, Heath has always had a shameful stigma attached to him and his family. Like everyone else at Ecquinox, he was set to undertake training to become a demon hunter, yet he showed very little potential and skill in combat training and was instead assigned to an apprenticeship with the dragon handlers. He learned all there was to know about dragons' behaviors, biology, and their needs for proper care, to the point where he could be described as an expert on the topic in the present day. However, he has never been treated as anything more than a lowly stable boy whom most demon hunters dismiss and treat poorly, only interested in his responsibilities to tend to their dragon mounts. He also hasn't had any opportunities to raise in rank like most other dragon handlers, likely due to the stigma against his traitorous parents. Heath has gotten used to the poor treatment over the years and believes his place is nowhere but the bottom of the social ladder, only useful in his skills to care for the dragons.

Heath currently goes about his life, tending to the dragons in the stables as usual and staying out of the way of any of the demon hunters. The dragons tend to appreciate him more, and he finds their company to be most comforting as he cares for them in general solitude. He is especially close to an elderly green dragon named Yleascere, and she tends to treat him like an adoptive son and looks after him since she has retired and no longer goes on missions. He has also unexpectedly gotten into a secretive relationship with one of the demon hunters in the general's elite flight, an intense and fierce man named Jerrik Arvydian. Heath is careful to hide their association to not damage Jerrik's reputation, and he’s happy to have any kind of positive attention after so many years of dismissal. Recently he has also befriended the newest addition to the elite flight, Rath Issure, and although very quiet, Rath seems to treat Heath with more kindness than most of the other hunters, which he greatly appreciates.

Trivia:

  • Heath's name is a reference to a character of the same name from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. At the time, I created a stable boy character that Rath would interact with and decided to name Heath in reference to the game, solely because Rath is also the name of a character from the same game (even though Rath was named independently and not a reference to the Fire Emblem character). I picked Heath in particular because the Heath in the game is a wyvern rider, so they share a common link to dragons.
    • My Heath's hair is also long and green similarly to the Heath from the game, although I intentionally style it differently to differentiate between them more, along with my Heath having a completely different personality and characterization.
  • Heath initially was a little more outgoing and less timid, although he was still seen as a lowly stable worker and was resigned to the poor treatment he'd often receive. Rath was meant to be one of the only people willing to speak with him besides the dragons.
    • It was also considered that Heath may have a bit of a crush on Rath, which was undecided on whether or not Rath would eventually reciprocate or not. This idea was dropped after I acquired Jerrik and developed a relationship between him and Heath instead.
    • Heath is still very fond of Rath though since he is also kind toward him.
    • Heath also was originally born in Solitriar before I changed it to be a lost city instead of a regular town. Heath also used to take care of weapons and armor maintenance in addition to his duties as a stable keeper, along with being competent with using weapons himself, like lances, swords, and guns. I removed this to make him a bit more helpless in his poor social situation, but he may learn the basics of using weapons later on.
    • He originally was supposed to have black and green hair and red eyes, but this was before I actually drew him a design.
  • Although he doesn't particularly refer to her as such, Heath would consider Yleascere to be somewhat of a mother figure toward him since she has cared for him throughout his life.
  • Heath does not have any personal quarters to himself, and he tends to sleep in Yleascere's large stable enclosure. He's done so since he was a child and first assigned to work in the stables.
  • He also doesn't have very many personal belonging since he isn't paid for his work in the stables. He wouldn't say so himself and wouldn't consider himself one, but he's essentially a slave to the demon hunters and has been conditioned to accept it as "just his place in life."
    • He doesn't own that many different articles of clothing and tends to cycle through the same few shirts and pants. His clothing always seems dirty and ratty even after he has washed it (he has to do his own cleaning) since it's all so worn out from the extensive labor he does every day in the stables.
    • Jerrik has gifted him a quite a few of his shirts so Heath has more to wear, but also because Jerrik rarely wears shirts in general and figures Heath would get more use out of them.
    • Jerrik has also gifted him a trunk with a lock so Heath can store all his new clothing that Jerrik has given him.
  • Heath is relatively strong from all the work he does, but he's still very thin and scrawny both because he has a high metabolism and also because he isn't very well fed.
    • He isn't permitted to eat in the dining hall with any of the other members of the compound, so he always picks up his prepared meals from the back of the kitchen and takes them back to the stables to eat.
    • Jerrik often brings him extra food in secret, and Rath also tends to offer him whatever he can sneak out of the dining hall.
  • One of his most treasured belongings is a metal hair cuff made of silver and encrusted with blue stones that was given to him by Jerrik. He cited that it was to help Heath keep his messy hair out of his face while working.
    • Another hunter once took it from Heath claiming that he must have stolen it from someone, and Jerrik promptly got it back for Heath and punched out the other hunter for being a thief.
  • Heath is sometimes invited to Jerrik's room for intimacy, although he tries to be very careful about who sees him heading to the elite hunters' wing of the living quarters.
    • His typical excuse for going to see Jerrik is to bring him any of Larimareth's shed scales. Jerrik claims they're valuable to him for certain "rituals" done by his village, but honestly it's just a bullshit excuse for Heath to use if anyone questions him why he has any business even speaking with Jerrik in the first place.
    • The only people who seem to be on to their arrangement besides the dragons that Heath works with are Merete, who is typically neutral and polite to Heath whenever she sees him passing through, and Rath, since Heath talks to him frequently. Although Heath has never mentioned he's in a relationship with Jerrik out of secrecy, Rath is pretty certain that their relationship is more than they let on, especially with how enamored Heath is whenever he speaks about Jerrik.
  • Just like he is toward people in general, Heath is also very submissive and typically passive in the bedroom. It's probably a good thing that Jerrik is rather dominant and assertive, otherwise Heath would be too shy to initiate any intimacy.
    • He's rather cuddly once contact has been established though. He has a hard time thinking he's allowed to touch other people since most people find him "dirty" or too lowly to touch, so when others make the first move to indicate contact is okay, he can be a little clingy. He’s pretty touch-starved in general.
    • He'll cuddle with Jerrik even though he's usually a little cold, since he is part-ice dragon. However, he thinks Jerrik is usually only cold if it's already somewhat cold in the environment. He'd be too embarrassed to remark it to anyone else (including Jerrik), but when the weather is very warm (which it usually is due to the climate of the region) then Jerrik is usually refreshingly cool to the touch. Like a nice perpetually cool pillow of muscle. XP
  • Before his relationship with Jerrik progressed further, Heath had basically never slept in a real bed before, save for when he was a child and before he became a stable worker. When he started working in the stables, he no longer had quarters with the youngest demon hunter trainees and temporarily had quarters as an apprentice stable worker. However, after he became an official worker he had to move out of the apprentice quarters and was never given a new room since the other workers deemed him too filthy to live anywhere near them. Yleascere allowed Heath to sleep in her enclosure instead.
  • Normally Heath doesn't have access to any baths or showers made for humans/humanoids, so he has to wash himself just using water intended for the dragons to rinse with. He isn't given access to any human specific soaps or shampoos either, and he's too timid to try sneaking any from anywhere else, so he either goes without or uses some of the stuff supplied for dragons as well. He uses the dragon-intended soaps very infrequently and only if he seriously needs to cleanse himself since they are a little strong; they're meant to clean scales, and it can be a little too strong for his skin and hair for regular use.
    • Jerrik allows Heath to use his shower and any other hygienic supplies whenever he visits his room, although he usually has to insist that Heath uses any of it since Heath is too shy to ask himself, no matter how many times he's been invited to do so before.
  • The other stable workers tend to make Heath work harder than he has to by essentially working in a subpar manner so more dragons will prefer Heath to handle them. And of course Heath doesn't want any of the dragons to be upset if they specifically request him.
    • Jerrik tends to encourage him to not let them take advantage of his work ethic, and he usually is assertive enough to get him not to let them obviously walk over him in those instances.
