Powerful - Dutiful - Outspoken - Insincere

First thing's first: Tarq is loyal (to those that work beside him, not whoever enslaved him) and, depending, even devoted, though he doesn't want to give that impression whatsoever.

He is extremely contrary and leaves others with the impression that under his spiky exterior there is nothing but a black heart in place. Which may be true, considering those that Tarq does latch onto (what little there are) are treated just as poorly as those he despises...
However, deep down, he is a man who is hurting emotionally-- and a bit physically, sometimes-- from this enslavement. It takes up his whole existence, it's hard not to take it personally, and lash out in turn with no true solution. It's part and parcel of his identity now to speak loudly and with a sneer, to come off judgmental.
If he hasn't disavowed and slandered whatever is happening, how can you really know if it was Tarq that said it, is usually the mindset of those that travel and work with him.

He is hesitant when it comes to forming ANY kind of bond with someone; who knows when he's going to be ordered to kill anyone he finally lets down his guard toward?

Story

Tarq is a demon who purges demons (some call it 'exorcising'). As you can imagine, he is a very petty bitter fellow.
...But at least he does his job good!   
...Then again that's probably because he's forced into it, with magic power bending his will and existence.   

It's been centuries since he was enslaved, so he isn't exactly hopeful about anything or anyone. Worst part is not knowing who he is controlled by, or how.
The only reason it's clear that Tarq is under dark powerful magics is his ability to traverse between realms without issue-- something other Demons can't even attempt... And how he complains and moans and whines for hours on end when doing tasks- flawlessly and with seeming ease- that he doesn't agree with.
He talks a lot of trash but the job always gets done, and his 'resume' is now longer than a book.

Since he can be a little harsh for shock-value, no one knows what Tarq would do if he were truly free...

Trivia

• He can actually go to modern/future settings, it just seems most appropriate for his home base to be in fantasy.
• The runes seared across his forearms crawl further along when using extreme power (from knuckles to neck if he's busy at work)
• First name for the irony of his character identity, nickname because ain't nobody typing out that damn name ever again lolll.
     He actually likes being called by his name but he is far too used to everyone being lazy and just calling him Tarq.
