⚓ | Tadachi (田立)

Tadachi, when around people in mer form, is shy, anxious and does what is asked of him without question. Tadachi does not remember his mother, and his father died before his eyes from a shark, leaving the weird looking orphan with no one but the pod elders to look after him. But they did nothing to stop what was said about his odd scales, and the curse of death around him. If staying away and doing stuff without being asked was how to live without bullying, he would do so.

In human form, (when his legs are covered. He gets panicky if they aren't) Tadachi is a smooth talking prince, endlessly complimenting his beloved and making everyone swoon. At least, he is in Tokyo, after Mizuko showed him how different people deal with their insercurities. The princes in anime he was shown as a child teased and taunted and complimented, to create a mask and hide what he truly feels. Alone with Mizuko, Tadachi often says things to be taken at face value, doesn't hide himself and opens up about what was eating at him throughout the day. Of course, Tadachi never takes a chance to go without teasing the other, kissing or cuddling, only saying no when he doesn't feel like having legs.

• After Papa introduced him to coffee, he's been hooked. And decided to work making it, in Tokyo.
• Mizuko thinks the heart of scales on his chest is "soo adorable!~"
• People keep asking him out at his work ('Host' cafe), despite the 'taken' label on his name tag.
• Tadachi actually enjoys fashion and dressing up (Too bad he can't wear clothing underwater.)
• The fish in his tail have names: Red is chi (血) and the pink is Sakura (桜).
• The betta fish used to fight all the time, but mellowed out when Tadachi met Mizuko.
• Tadachi has no problem spearing any fish or marine mammal, except great white sharks. He immediately goes into a panic attack upon seeing one. (Aquarium visits are thoroughly researched)

While not as complex as his human family, Tadachi's birth was more problematic. His mother died shortly after he was born, and he was raised by his infamously reckless father. Until he was four anyway, when great whites came too close to the pod and his father sacrificed himself to save Tadachi. His earliest memory is of his father getting torn up in front of him.

Orphaned and cursed as a child of death with fucking weird scales, Tadachi was an outcast to all but the elders and children of the pod. One day when it was too stressful, he swam off closer to the shore, and got swept up by the storm. And though he was injured and bleeding, he has never made a better decision, since that's how he met Mizuko. And even before he was 11, Tadachi threw away his chance of finding someone else, and kissed Mizuko, his legs confirming the love they had for each other even so early on.

Aside from becoming a hunter/protector for the pod, Tadachi's underwater adolescence was nothing note worthy. What is, was getting his heart broken from all the females suddenly attracted to his boyfriend. However, coffee cuddles and careful conversation eased most of these problems. There was also the issue of this 'university' thing that meant Mizuko having to move. Leaving Tadachi without a place to call home again. Although, with some carefully choosen words and after-sex confessions, Tadachi decides to follow Mizuko into Tokyo for his studies. With a haircut, barista teachings from Papa and maths and Japanese lessons from Otou-san, Tadachi was ready for the big city.

Cooped up in a tiny apartment with Mizuko could have been better, more water for a start and less accidental tails at work would be nice. But not being scorned at is new, and he feel good about his looks with a new outfit. There's also the bonus of sex whenever they want too. Tadachi really wished Mimizu would be okay at school though, and that Mizuko put more thought into life changing decisions, but all was well. Well, then they found an injured willow child at the bay and he tried to kill them, but Tsuki was basically a child to them now.

Tadachi's job as a barista ("Host. You're a host, Tada.") never changed throughout Mizuko's years at university, and only changed locations when the owners of the store swapped over. (He would follow Manager-san anywhere with how accepting he is.) Tadachi does enjoy his trips with Mizuko's research team though, plenty of water, good company and Tsuki often finds them too. However, despite his love for the fashion and appeal his looks have on the city folk, Tadachi is ecstatic to move back to Iwami for more than a holiday. The beach where they met; their cave means more to Tadachi than the world.
