| Personality | In stark contrast to his brother, Grasshopperwing is kind in nature and hard-working. He is driven by curiosity, a thirst for knowledge, and the genuine desire to do good at his job and help AntlerClan, so he rarely takes breaks and is constantly on the go. However, he is also tragically homosexual and desperately in need of a man, which conflicts heavily with the confines of his role. His saccharine awkwardness gives him a sort of charisma and he is a natural flirt, which he feels is going to waste. When he's not flustered, he is a surprisingly adept speaker. While not required by his role, he enjoys hunting and going out and about. He's pretty brave, but has an odd fear of getting killed by a bear after he had a nightmare as a kit. He feels like he wouldn't stand a chance in a fight, having been taught the basics but having the managed expectations of someone surrounded by warriors. He's not really aware of it, but he has a slight bias against she-cats between his mommy issues, homosexuality, and desire to 'pass' as a man. He really dislikes his calico pelt because it makes him look feminine and doesn't match his name at all. | |
| History | Grasshopperwing and his brother were left on the AntlerClan border when they were kits. Their parents never told them their names. Wave was pretty sure it was because they didn't like that Grasshopper insisted that he was a tom, but Grasshopper assumed that they were having new kits to take care of. Neither theory was great. They were taken in by Dappledspirit, but never really understood why as she never seemed very attached to them, and there were other cats in the clan who would have been willing to parent them. He realized really quickly that he wanted to be a medicine cat, and would sneak out to pick herbs even though it brought conflict with his leader and clanmates. Despite the setbacks, Embermask could see his enthusiasm and took him as her apprentice. Finally, his workaholic tendencies could take over. Grasshopperpaw spent nary a day off of his apprenticeship to just relax, in stark contrast to his brother. Every once in a while, he would see the other apprentices and yearn for Kestrelpaw's attention, but would tamp that down and get back to work. Near the end of his apprenticeship, Embermask gave birth to a litter following the death of her secret mate. The leader allowed the loss to be the only punishment, so she was allowed to remain as a medicine cat. Grasshopperpaw felt a bit betrayed when he'd been working so hard to fight his own feelings for Kestrelstrike, but couldn't hate his mentor, who was almost a maternal figure to him. Wavecrash was rejected by Maplesplotch and started to pursue Raisinpelt. Grasshopperpaw appreciated that his brother didn't go after Kestrelstrike for his sake, but almost wished he did because he knew he couldn't have him, and Raisinpelt was mean. He prayed to StarClan more than ever, and the clan saw good fortune, but try as he might, he could barely contain himself treating his crush's wounds. As his apprenticeship was coming to an end, his mother got increasingly irritated he hadn't earned a full name yet. He was named Grasshopperwing, because there were not a lot of other directions to go with with such a long prefix. | |
