Profile

Bio: The main protagonist of Feather Knights, though not on his own volition. A humble farm boy from the village of Havendale, that is all Milo aspired to be for most of his life. He took up more responsibility around the farm after his father died defending him and his mother from a village raid when Milo was a child. His mother Gwen, thought spirited and hard working in her own right, is quite frail after such a traumatic loss, so Milo does all he can to share the burden, even if he cannot lift it completely.

That said, Milo is quickly swept up into the royal politics of the kingdom of Irivell after he and several other village children are kidnapped by marauders. During a failed escape attempt, he is thrown out of the carriage and over a cliff as an example, which would have killed him under normal circumstances. Instead, he quite literally earns his wings through a feat of ancestral magic not seen in Faedarin for decades, and these newly acquired wings break his fall into the forest below. Ironically, he earned the nickname of "Snowy" before getting his wings rather than after, thanks to his snow white hair that he's had since birth. It can make him seem older than he is, and that maturity carries over into much of his quiet but firm personality as well.

He is eventually found by Irivell's royal guard, the Feather Knights, but it turns out to be far from a benevolent rescue. Only royalty of this world are allowed to have wings on their backs, considered a divine gift from the fallen gods and passed down through their families, making Milo a rather serious anomaly in this regard. The leader of the Feather Knights, also the Prince of Irivell itself, is quick to "recruit" Milo into their ranks as the beginning of his punishment for defying the crown, though he doesn't word it that way. Instead it is framed as a grand adventure, and opportunity of a lifetime to join the most prestigious knights in the land (according to him)!

Considering how his father died as a knight, Milo's mother is understandably mortified at the idea of her son following in his footsteps, but neither she nor Milo are given much choice, and he is whisked away with the guard the following day. Whether he wanted to be or not, he is surprisingly adept for a knight-in-training, though this only complicates things once he reaches Castle Irivell and awaits his trial by the King and Queen.

Though he is thrust into the lavish lifestyle of the royal guard, Milo's unfamiliarity with extravagance and generally humble personality remains true throughout. Despite his hair, his wings, and later his armour, he likely wouldn't stand out all that much and is quite content with that. In fact, being in any kind of spotlight disquiets him to the point of freezing, though he can usually snap out of it well enough if the situation requires it. He is quite bashful towards his accomplishments, preferring to just keep his head down and get the job done, no fanfare required.
