PINTEREST BOARDS

Chanto is often described by others as a ray of sunshine. Always a positive influence on others, she loves bringing smiles to people wherever she goes. She often cares for those around her and would do anything to help those in need without wanting anything in return. She loves making friends and cherishes the ones she currently has now. People in the past have often taken advantage of her friendliness but she is slowly working to learn how to put her foot down. Chanto gets emotional rather easily and intense feelings of happiness, sadness, or anger can lead to her shedding tears instantly.

Although a hard worker when it comes to school, she does not usually get the best results. Chanto often finds it hard to focus on her studies by herself so she usually asks help from her other friends such as Aaron and Duncan. As much as she wants to perform well, she gets distracted quite easily by the littlest things. Aside from this, her workplace is usually messy, and she tends to forget to fix her things unless someone reminds her or points it out. This is not the case when it comes to her plants though. Chanto makes sure her plants are always organized and taken care of, as it is her first priority at home or in her dorm.

Outside of school, Chanto is very much an outdoorsy person. She loves being active and basking in the warmth of the sun. She is not afraid to get dirty while doing outdoor activities as she is used to it because of how she lived in the farm as a child. She cares deeply for the environment and is often seen using biodegradable materials, encouraging her peers to do the same.

Despite all this, she does have a fondness for cute items and clothes such as stuffed toys and frilly dresses. She always keeps a collection of plushies in her room and on her bed. She keeps these away from her plants though, as she is afraid of them getting dirty. Her wardrobe mostly consists of simple outdoor clothes, but she does wish she had the money to purchase more luxurious dresses. Her priority when it comes to spending is for school and her plants, but she does often go window shopping when the opportunity arises.

Story

She was born to a normal family as an only child.

While her father was a meteorologist, her mother was a biologist and she learned the basics of gardening from her parents at a very young age. During summer vacation, they would stay somewhere far away from the city and tend to their family farm's fruits and vegetables. Because of this, Chanto was used to outdoor life which involved heat and dirt, and even preferred it over the cold season. When summer vacation is over, they would go back to the city and continue their regular jobs.

Chanto was a lively child who loved making friends in her neighborhood. Her kindness and cheerful demeanor allowed her to make friends easily. She wasn't always the smartest in her class, but she was definitely the friendliest. However, there were some people who took advantage of that trait. She would sometimes be a pushover to the point where she would do anything to keep her friends. If she finds out that someone would not want to be her friend anymore, she would start crying. The only person who she stood up against was Duncan. He was the only one she actively disliked in her class because of his attitude towards others, especially her friends.

All of that was in grade school though. Growing up, she realized that not everyone can like you despite how nice you are. It took years for her to adjust to that. All she wants is to make the people around her or the people she cares about, happy.

She knows it will be hard, but Chanto really wants to pursue biology for college like her mother. The idea of studying plants and life around intrigued her.

Relationships
Aaron Vesre | best friend

"Aaron! He's my best friend! He's always so funny and smart and supportive and cool and, um! I'm so glad to have met him! I don't like it when he teases me with Laverne though..."

Chanto sees him as one of her best friends who she could confide in anytime. He was her former tutor who would help her with her studies, though those sessions would lead them to bond more personally. Aaron would hang out with her a lot back when they were still schoolmates and he often teased her about Laverne and being a plant nerd.

-

On her first year of high school, Chanto needed a tutor from one of the upperclassmen as she was getting low grades and needed help. Aaron, who was in his second year, was the first one to offer help. He would set up tutoring sessions after class to bring her grades back up.

Chanto thought it would be hell because she struggled trying to comprehend any other subject other than her favorite, science. Surprisingly, Aaron was a pretty good tutor who was patient and made topics easier to understand. He was the chill type of tutor and he would make jokes every once in a while to cheer up Chanto especially when she was having a hard time.

The two became fast friends and they would eventually laugh and talk about things other than school, such as stories about their past and their personal lives. Chanto reminded Aaron of his little sister back at home, so deeply cares for Chanto and her wellbeing. At the same time, Chanto saw him as a big brother who she could depend on during times of trouble.

Duncan Ferelle | "best" friend, rival, former enemy

"Bitchass motherfucker. Kidding! He can be really annoying but most of our anger towards each other in the past. Nowadays I kinda just leech off his notes (shh)"

Chanto tolerates Duncan to a certain degree. They've been classmates (and enemies) grade school, but only became good friends because of Aaron and the fact that they’ve had to deal with each other for almost a decade. As time passed, Chanto would eventually take pleasure in playfully bullying Duncan whenever she can, much to his chagrin. They both act like siblings who always fight.

-

Both of them had been schoolmates since grade school.

When they were in 2nd or 3rd grade or so, Chanto had a small garden beside their school playground which she tends to every recess, lunch and before she goes home- which was around 2pm. She cared deeply for the garden, and she took a lot of time making it pretty and colorful.

There was a bench next to the garden to which Duncan does his book-reading every 4pm, 2 hours after school ends. Duncan didn’t know that the garden was personally owned and thought that it just belonged to the school.

One day, after reading one of his books, he decided to mess around with the small garden since he thought no one cared about it anyways. He was bored, waiting for his parents to pick him up to he wanted to entertain himself. On that day he brought with him two important books that belonged to his mother, so he had to keep them both safe. Duncan forgot about this fact though, so he brought his two books with him while stepping on the flowers and kicking the dirt.

Chanto had to stay until 4pm on that day because she had to catch up with schoolwork. She had been absent for the past 3 days due to a sickness, so she had missed out on plenty of lectures and homework. As 4pm finally rolled around, she got her watering can to water her small garden by the playground after a few days of being neglected. When she finally got there, that’s when she saw the garden. And him.

Everything was ruined- the plants, the rock arrangements, the grass, everything was a mess. Duncan stopped kicking around and looked at Chanto while she stared back at him. It was silent for a few minutes until Chanto started crying slowly. She couldn’t stop crying until Duncan slowly spoke up, but the first thing he said was “Why are you crying? It’s not like this is your garden anyways”.

Chanto finally stopped crying for a few seconds but soon after, she screamed and took off the cover of her watering can to throw all the water contained inside at him.

Duncan yelled loudly as he stepped back a few steps, soaking wet. He didn’t care that he was wet though, the only thing that was on his mind was the fact that the two books he brought with him were soaking wet as well. He knelt down, checking the books. No good. The pages were fully drenched and the words were blurry and hard to read. He should’ve put those books on the bench, he told himself. He was in big trouble.

He didn’t have time to dry the books though, right at that moment his mom’s car finally came. Duncan panicked and thought to blame Chanto immediately but when he looked back, Chanto was gone. She had run away in tears to tell someone about her ruined garden.

Duncan’s parents were immensely disappointed with him for failing to do the simple task of taking care of those books. He had been grounded for a week and even though he reasoned repeatedly that Chanto was the one who threw the water, his parents did not take any excuses. Duncan hated disappointing his parents, and this was the first time he’d been harshly scolded by them.

Ever since that day, Chanto and Duncan hated each other. Every time they would pass by each other in the hallways, they would glare at each other and even start physical fights. It seemed like luck was not on their side though, as there has not been a year where they have not been classmates. Time passed, and their sheer hated for each other slowly dissolved as they slowly learned to get used to each other’s presence. They joke that they will never forgive the other because of that incident, but they both know they have long since moved past that.

Laverne Carier | good friend, crush

"LAVERNE?! Ahh umm... I think she's really cool! And, um, really pretty... Don't tell her I said that please I'm gonna die from embarrassment!!!"

Chanto finds Laverne very pretty and is constantly blushing around her presence. She usually goes to the library just to greet her and give the occasional flower from her garden. Despite the small crush she has on her, Chanto genuinely cares for Laverne and always accompanies her whenever she suspects that Laverne is feeling lonely. During some occasions, Chanto would offer to walk her back home to spend more time with her.

-

Chanto was the first one to see Laverne in person, even before Laverne worked as a student librarian in their school. As Chanto was walking home, she decided to take a quick detour and visit a mansion she's heard about from her friends because it is said that it had a really beautiful garden with an assortment of plants and flowers.

Even before Chanto reached the mansion, she could see how big and stunning the garden was from afar. Chanto stood outside the mansion and admired the beauty of the whole place. The tiniest voice in her head told her to sneak in the garden for a little bit so she could at least see how the garden looked inside. Chanto spent minutes pacing back and forth thinking to herself whether it was a good idea or not but ultimately decided to climb the gate for just a little, little while.

Chanto was right– the whole place was gorgeous and looked just like how she imagined it. She could tell that the owners of the place took very well care of all the flora. As she was about to leave, she spotted a girl about her age walking towards her nearby. Chanto uttered a quiet squeak as she tried to hide behind a bush as quickly as possible. It did nothing though, as the girl asked her to come out and explain herself. Chanto shyly came out from hiding and that was when she got a clear view of the girl.

She is so pretty, Chanto thought to herself. Laverne squinted at her as she had been staring instead of giving an answer. Laverne cleared her throat, bringing Chanto back to reality as she sputtered out apologies for trespassing and stated that she only wanted to look at their garden. Laverne, believing her sincerity, chuckled and asked if Chanto wanted to have some tea outside, to which Chanto happily accepted.

The next time Chanto and Laverne would meet would be in school. They would both be surprised seeing each other there, as Chanto did not know there would be a new librarian and Laverne did not know that Chanto went to the school she would work for. They became closer, and Laverne would sometimes invite Chanto for a cup of tea at her garden again, since she knows she loves the place.
