Growing up, she was often left alone at home, tending to herself and the house, while her father worked long hours at the dock and, when he was sure she could take care of herself for days without guidance, days and weeks away working at various ships. She didn't know much about her mother, who had left them when she was too young to remember, but she had heard stories from her father about how she "Appeared from the ocean, and dissapeared like he had met her" and that she took after her mother. Both in appearance and strange powers.

When she grew older, around 13 years old, her father suddenly didn't come back from one of his jobs. A week or so after he and the ship was supposed to return, a message came to the dock workers that the ship had encountered bad weather on their journey, and was lost on sea. No trace of the ship could be found, neither cargo nor crew members. The news devestated her, of course, as her only known family was lost for good. The dock workers that had worked with her father knew of her, and despite some wariness due to her unusual appearance, did give their condolances, but she more and more retreated to her home, and not really spending time amongs the other villagers.

As was bound to happen, her reserves of money began dwindling down. She did make enough money to get something to eat for a few days by collecting oysters and other deep-dwelling produce from the sea and selling them off in town (she was certain that her ability to breathe under water came from her mother's side), but by the time she became 15, she set out into town to look for a more "normal" job. On her way into town, however, she bumped into a stranger. She didn't know every single person in her village, but the fellow seemed... out of place in such a village. The stranger just stared at her, which did make her feel weird, but before she could say anything, he handed her an old, ragged tome. He stated that she was different (he reassured her that it was not just because she was blue), and that the tome would give her answers, as well as new questions for her to solve. Reluctantly, she accepted, and before she could ask who he was, he began walking away. She tried to follow him, but as he turned around a corner, he disapeared.

The tome she had recieved did indeed hold many answers and riddles, and as she retreated more and more from the life of the village, she dived into the knowledge of the tome. The more she studied, the more she came to understand the structures of the world she lived in, and the power the mind could hold. The more time she spent memorizing and meditating, the more she could manifest what was once only letters on paper into something truly in the world. By the time she had nearly memorized every word in the tome, her thirst for more knowledge grew, with an inner desire to unlock more of the secrets and inner workings of both the world and her own mind, and thus, she set out to explore, discover, and learn.
