Kitt grew up in an orphanage before she met Quentin.

She was always the touchy feely type. She loved hugs.

While in that orphanage, she would make a few friends who loved her hugs. They weren't just signs of affection. They were how Kitt expressed her feelings. 

Tight squeezes were the best. The closest she could get.

She's pretty exuberant and peppy. Quite the opposite of Quentin.

After living with Quentin for a few days, she would show her appreciation and hug him. He was fine with these hugs at first. But after a month of constant touching, he had had enough.

Kitt isn't one to back down, so she told Quentin she hugs him because she loves him.

He hates hugs now. But he loves Kittum. Even if he's terrible at showing it.
