► Joey
"It's a living!"
Joey is the go-to scuzzball mafioso out in Cali. It's pretty obvious he's more passionate about his adult film industry work, primarily taking well-crafted photography stills, or directing photoshoots with the utmost professionalism.
... But, um, as it was in those days, sometimes work did collude with pleasure. Cough.
Appearance
- Slicked hair (though a bit ruffled at times), a thick layer of cologne-- even though cigarette smoke permeates even that-- and a cocky expression. Joey just looks like the worst kind of trouble to run into: the conniving, convincing, pestering type of trouble.
- Leisure suits, color-blocked monstrosities, windbreakers, polos with slacks, gold chains and shiny silver accessories... Where do you think Johnny got all his 'best' clothes from before Joey moved?
- Wideset build. 'Bulky' is a nice way of putting it. Even with his height, he is visibly thick-- fairly round in the belly alone.
- Has a prominent beauty mark on the left side of his jaw, right below his bottom lip.
- He makes time to bake in the sun; his natural tone is just a smidge more pale (not by much).
- His somewhat carefree demeanor would leave him fairly unwrinkled, but years of chain-smoking, overtanning, and drinking nonstop has caused his skin to be a little worn-out... Not as bad as his eldest brother, though.
- Sometimes prone to wearing a toupee to even out his threatening-to-vanish hairline. Otherwise, his natural hair is pretty wispy, easy to spot.
Personality
- Despite his locale leaving most others disenchanted, Joey's got an optimistic head on his shoulders. He is far from naive, though. In fact, he might be one of those elusive heartless jerks who can look on the bright side only due to willful ignorance about the big picture.
- Not naive, sure... But not intelligent or cutting. He really is just doing the best he can with what he has. But the fact that he's doing the best is what makes him different than the norm. He takes himself pretty seriously (he's about the only one, though).
- Its in his best interests to be patient and understanding, so of course he can switch on that type of polite charm without issue. For most people, though, that's not even feasible when in a good mood. Joey truly has it in himself to be a genuine, kind person.
- But... He is for sure selfish. He tries not to let it be apparent. He will do his best to work through things with a lazy smile, to get someone's guard down.
- Addictive personality to the nth power. He smokes too much, drinks too much, exercises his lust too much, demands far more money than necessary.
Get him started on some odd fad (though that might take some needling), and he'll outrun you in miles with his vigor and enthusiasm for it.
- Underneath all the glitz and glamour and 'fast paced' living, he does have a bit of a soft spot...
He is prone to falling in love a little too fast. Or maybe it's lust? Hmm. he doesn't get too introspective, really, he figures himself too busy to prod at his own machinations.
BIO
Sleazy job, sleazy 'tude. Joe is known among Los Angeles as being a fast-talker and easy to please.
He acts like he doesn't care for showbiz but it's so much fun compared to his genuine work with the mafia.
On top of that, he can't remember the last time he visited his home turf and stayed there for more than a week. He loves his little 'cover' in California, though most of his (frigid) family back home demands to know just what he's doing out there.
He downplays himself, if only thanks to a lot of Hollywood big hitters not giving a damn about the mafia, and in turn, thinking little of Joe and his family.
He genuinely did work himself up to where he is now in showbiz, but it sure does help to have connections when the going gets rough. Even without the safety-net, Joe does just fine, being a prominent photographer in the 'adult video' circuit. He's so respected and asked for that he is often given the reins on directorship, and in those circumstances, he truly feels like he found his calling.
Relationships
Joey's children (...All ten of them)
Maybe Joe isn't the best father. Maybe, even, he might be the worst. There are quite a few children that Joey has no idea exist (its nothing major, just one or two)....Regardless, there are some that he pays child support for (and boy is that expensive), and there are some that are legally tied to his ex wives... And his cousin's wife. But that's another story for another time.
The point is, Joey tries to make good the best way he can. And if the best way is with cash, then so be it. He's spent maybe a grand total of twenty days worth in hours with his children. He leaves the difficulties up to his children's mothers and his siblings and family members that actually find that sort of care taking stimulating. Which is ironic, considering Joey himself has such a pleasant attitude when it comes to keeping his patience and kindness up, and an ear open for someone who'd want it.
Gene (Brother)
[adding on to link descriptions]Gene is Joey's baby brother. What a little runt. He's hilarious in his own weird way, to Joey. There's something odd in his attitude about their family, but there he is, any chance he can get, acting like a suck up to their father. Hey, who's Joey to judge, its not like he does his sucking-up much differently. But whenever they're alone, just him and Eugenio, it's not too much fun.
There was a time where the kid took care of Joey's kids, and that was nice. Maybe that's what ran him off from being a confidant so long ago?
Johnny Baby (COUSIN)

What a kid! Johnny is a hoot and a half. If there's one person Joey misses from the cold ol' east coast, it's that little scrawny punk. Not that they miss each other too much-- Joe does make time to give Baby a ring every once in a while, even so far across the coast. They mesh well... And their parties are legendary.
Tano (BROTHER)

Tano is Joe's older brother, and while their time together was plentiful in youth, it seemed to pass by in the blink of an eye after the string bean ran off. What Joe can remember was great fun, though. The two rarely agreed, but when they did, it was about all the important stuff... Like whether that girl next door had a great rack, or whether they would kiss their nanny on the lips.
If Joey could see Tano again, he's not sure how he would feel. Realistically, they'd get along perhaps even better than they did as kids. It sure as hell would be relieving to know that the whole homosexual tendencies thing isn't just a one-time fluke in the genetics department.
Trivia
- He goes by a lot of nicknames: Pepe, Giu... But most commonly, Joe, or Joey.
- The bastard has been married five times. All divorces.
His first marriage was when he was eighteen, so... - He thinks he looks really good with his tan LOL. Then again, for the era, surely many other people tend to agree with him.
- He's known to go on and on about how he used to be a big ol stud/football star. ...This may or may not be true-- nobody who knew him in school is around to confirm or deny it
- His sun/glasses are prescription and transitional (so they can be drawn as clear-lensed or tinted).
He paid an ass-ton for them and refuses to take them off until they prove their worth. - Like his brothers, he can speak Italian, but he prefers English above all else.
He is prone to cursing in Italian in front of ladies, just to keep their delicate sensibilities unfettered. - Also like his brothers, he doesn't enjoy the mafia side of his hustling... But he can't say no to it. His reasons are less honest than Gene's 'I want to respect my father and the family he built up' mindset. He simply just likes the quick income, and its helped him through tough times in his youth, so he's a bit dependent on the idea of it now.
