Marcus has dreams of being an animator and illustrator and moves to California to pursue his dreams. In the mean time, the high cost of living has been wearing him down, as he has 4 part time jobs and has no organized portfolio.

He starts being late on rent, and eventually decides to perhaps downsize to a cheaper apartment, as the $1.2k a month can’t be sustained for much longer.

Looking for a new place to stay, he finds a room being rented out in a suburb by Ronald, a soon retiring high school physics teacher. Ronnie (as he insists on being called) decided to rent out the guest room at his son’s suggestion as a way of making some extra pocket money. Ronnie asks $500 for rent, which is incredibly cheap for this area.

Marcus is skeptical of the offer at first but finds Ronnie to be a genuinely kind man. Hoping he isn’t moving in with some serial murderer who lures in people with cheap rent, he packs his bags and moves into Ronnie’s spare room.

Marcus also has a pet tortoise named Chase, who he brings along with him.

His mustache and beard are in a constant state of flux. He tries to shave often but he always seems to have stubble somewhere one way or another.
