Meredith had a normal childhood with her sister and childhood friend, John. Her family was very involved with he church, and often took care of the priest and his family. Through this, Meri became very aware of the rights and wrongs of the world, and made it her job to solve the wrongs of others. Despite being a princess, Meri would often sneak out and do good deeds, because sitting around doing nothing didn't feel right. This behavior stopped as she got older, but her sense of justice did not. She simply started to learn the things she could do as a princess to help those in need.
Now old enough to marry, Meredith's older sister was given to the king of a near-by country to better the relationship between the two countries. After months of no letters, Meredith's family visit the king, only to find that the princess never arrived. The situation tenses, as the king believes he was deceived.. But Meredith remedies the situation by volunteering to marry the king in her sister's place. But this is just an act, as her real goal is to investigate her sister's disappearance. And the only way to prevent her family from getting involved is to leave them. So, now that she is to be married, Meredith must conduct her investigation in secret.
