Melodywisp was born as a kittypet with the name Melody to Koi and Fred with their siblings Harmony, Rhythm, Viola, Beethoven, and Mozart. The six siblings always got along quite well with each other, with Melody being the shyest. Their timidity led them to be the last of the litter adopted out. Koi, Melody's mother, viewed all of her kits as nuisances and left their care to be handled by the Twolegs. But Melody was always trying to be closer to their mother, and when they were the only kit left, Koi seemed to take a second look at Melody.
But when Melody told their mother they were agender, wanting to go by they/them, Koi rejected them. She brought them into the forest and then left. Melody was found by two Emberclan warriors, Owlsplash and Birchmask. After explaining what happened, Melody was immediately adopted by the mates, joining Emberclan and keeping their name, thus becoming Melodykit.
Melodykit was showered with love by Owlsplash and Birchmask, and under their support and care was able to come out of their shell. Melodypaw was mentored by Marblestar, Emberclan's leader and also a former kittypet. Melodypaw became quite close with Owlsplash's mother, Frecklegleam, always bringing her prey to the elder's den and attentively listening to her stories. They also developed into an exceptional hunter, one of the best in Emberclan.
Melodywisp earned their warrior name, and celebrated with their parents. Owlsplash and Birchmask were very proud of their kit. One day, Melodywisp goes to Leafclan to get some herbs. There, they meet Sunwhisker, a Leafclan warrior. The two hit it off almost immediately, and meet up with each other every chance they can get. As their bond grows deeper, Melodywisp begins to realize they are crushing.
The night of the Dark Forest battle comes. Melodywisp is cornered by a Dark Forest warrior, Hawkthorn, and is about to be killed when Frecklegleam intervenes. She takes the killing blow instead, and the commotion draws the attention of Owlsplash and Birchmask, who immediately come to Melodywisp's aid. Melodywisp is heartbroken by their grandmother's death. After the battle ends, Marblestar has also been killed, making Frostberry the new leader of Emberclan. She appoints Fenneljaw as her new deputy.
During the cleanup from the battle, Sunwhisker suddenly appears. They tell Melodywisp that the whole time they were fighting, all he could think about was Melodywisp. He realized that they never wanted to face things without Melodywisp ever again, and are willing to join Emberclan to be with them. Melodywisp is swept off their paws and excitedly accepts, the two becoming mates.
Sunwhisker is given an apprentice, Rushpaw(talon), as a way to further cement their loyalty to Emberclan, and after going missing for a few days Owlsplash brings in two kits, a she-kit named Cricketkit(flood) and a tom-kit named Riverkit(storm), saying she found them in a bush. Melodywisp lovingly greets their new siblings.
Then one day, Blossomflare, Sunwhisker's younger sister, shows up at the clan. She asks to join, and Sunwhisker vouches for her. Then Blossomflare attempts to kill Froststar in her den one night. She is stopped by Fenneljaw, who she then kills instead. Froststar kills Blossomflare in retailation, but not before Blossomflare reveals that she had a kit, one that would continue her legacy. Froststar is utterly wrecked by Fenneljaw's death, and it takes her nearly two days to appoint Mallowclaw as the new deputy. Then, Froststar hears that Sunclan has taken in three kits from Aspenfang and Mottle, two former Tansyclan and Leafclan warriors respectively. Mottle is Blossomflare's older brother, from the same litter as Sunwhisker. One of the three kits is Blossomflare's. Froststar demands that Peonystar, Sunclan's leader, give over the kit, and when Peonystar refuses, Froststar declares war.
Froststar then exiles Sunwhisker, fearing they might have had a paw in her failed assassination attempt. Sunwhisker is completely taken aback by this, but leaves the clan anyway. Melodywisp decides to leave with them, wanting to stand by their mate. The two of them venture out beyond the clan borders, and eventually find Aspenfang and Mottle, who are living in an abandoned cabin. After explaining the situation, the two mates allow the two mates to stay.
Time passes on, and Melodywisp finds themselves longing for home. They would never dream of abandoning Sunwhisker however, and if they were ever going back they would go back together. Then one day, while out hunting, Melodywisp runs into Crowflurry. Crowflurry is a young Sunclan warrior, and had journeyed out with another Sunclan warrior, Calicowing, in search of Aspenfang and Mottle, to learn whether she or one of her brothers were actually the kit of Blossomflare (and Ryesong) in order to put an end to the war. Melodywisp leads Crowflurry and Calicowing to the abandoned cabin.
The two Sunclan warriors stay for a couple days, and then a big argument breaks out between Crowflurry and Mottle. It ends with Aspenfang having to physically restrain Crowflurry and reveal who Blossomflare's kit is. Crowflurry wants to leave then and there, but is forced to wait due to a raging storm. When the storm clears, Melodywisp and Sunwhisker decide to return to the clans with Crowflurry (Calicowing decided to stay behind). The two had been wanting to go back to the clans for a while now, but were hoping to go when the war was over. They couldn't wait any longer, though. They were going to try and convince Froststar to let them back in, and if she wouldn't, then they planned to go around to the rest of the clans until one of them accepted.
Crowflurry, Melodywisp, and Sunwhisker set off. As they were going back, they heard mewling, and found a small blind tom-kit on his own. Melodywisp and Sunwhisker immediately adopted him, naming him Cottonkit(plume). They carried him the rest of the way back to the clans, Crowflurry departing from them to head to Sunclan. When Melodywisp, Sunwhisker, and Cottonkit reached Emberclan, they were surprised to see that the war had been ended. Froststar called it off after Cricketflood, Rabbitspring (Fenneljaw's son), and Brackensnow (Sunclan medicine cat, contender for Blossomflare's kit) had come together to lure Froststar to a basement in Twolegplace. The storm then flooded the basement, and Brackensnow helped to save Froststar, who had lost a life to a pipe bursting. Froststar had seen Fenneljaw while between lives, and after waking up, was told that Brackensnow helped to save her. Froststar then dove back into the flooded basement to rescue Brackensnow, and when everyone was out she called off the war.
Owlsplash and Birchmask and Cricketflood were ecstatic to see Melodywisp and Sunwhisker, and enthusiatically welcomed Cottonkit. When Cottonpaw became an apprentice, Cricketflood was his mentor. A while later, there was a huge storm that swept through the clans. It caused the river to overrun its banks and flood into Emberclan's camp. With Sunclan's help everyone initially evacutated safely, but then Cottonpaw slipped and fell back into the flood. Chickadeepaw, a Sunclan apprentice, dove in to rescue Cottonpaw, being a strong swimmer. Chickadeepaw was able to get Cottonpaw to safety, but then was struck by a branch, going under. Peonystar leapt in to save him, but Chickadeepaw drowned, and Peonystar lost one of her lives.
Emberclan moved to Sunclan's camp for the time being, and shortly after all the clans set off to Sunclan's old territories, having lost communication with Starclan prior to the storm. Melodywisp and Sunwhisker kept an eye on Cottonpaw, but he had made friends with another Sunclan apprentice, Fireflypaw(blaze) (Chickadeepaw's sister). When they reached the new territories, Cottonplume was given his warrior name, his parents both very proud of him.
