About

Caring • Driven • Inventive • Stubborn • Overbearing • Anxious

In a Nutshell: A smoll, genius engineer with a stubborn streak and anxieties she's constantly trying to keep in check.

Death has been all around Mercury's life, but that doesn't mean she can't stop living. Though she's known plenty of family and friends alike who have passed from the battles the Academy wages, she uses that as motivation to charge on, fighting for the Resistance as one of their elite operatives and main engineers. Whether it's through crafting new gadgets or forging new bonds, Mercury knows she will find a way to create the future she wants to see.

Summary

- her father died in the war serving the Resistance, her mother raised her on her own - somewhat sheltered as a result, compared to other Gifted. Those who knew her mother say that Merc has her stubborn streak (ie, her mom taught her not to let anything get under her skin and that has passed on to merc.)

- she and her mom weren't chased across continents like cole was - they did wander but generally in the same area to stay safe.

- Merc still has an uncle in the Resistance; in particular her father's brother. After some searching she managed to learn the location of headquarters in Hart City which is where the Resistance took her in. Her uncle views what happened to her dad as an unfortunate tragedy and checks in on her every once in a while. He's worried, but at the same time they don't know each other too well (yet) so sometimes their talks can be really awkward. Her uncle had joined the Resistance with her father a long time ago. He used to be on the front lines, now he helps with tactical operations + takes account of what supplies they need.

Trivia

• Her passion is engineering, and she hopes to go into that one day!

• The comforting one of the group who checks in on everyone.

• Also creates neat new gadgets for the Resistance, from communication devices to drones she can send out to spy on enemy forces.

• She's the shortest out of the whole squad, but point it out and she might not be so friendly.

• Hates her real name, prefers to be called Mercury instead. She only lets close friends call her by her full name, and even then, it's only for teasing.

Kura

Mercury's squadmate. She makes an effort to take Kura to various outings in the city to have her 'lighten up' - and interestingly, it always results in a faint smile from the normally stoic warrior. Mercury is curious about her very secretive nature about her past in particular, but doesn't push her too much to find out. Kura, on the other hand, appreciates the time Mercury takes to acquaint her with normal, city life, though she's absolutely abysmal at showing it. The times she spends with Mercury - similar to times with Amir - are times she becomes a little more talkative, and can forget about the clashes going on between Gifted and Non-Gifted peoples - at least for now. Mercury always jokes that one day they'll share a bottle of champagne after a victory to really let Kura 'get loose'.

Amir

Mercury's teammate. Both Mercury and Amir have a shared stubborn streak and are generally friendly, passionate people - meaning they get along quite well, for the better or for the worse. In work they can be a lethal team, though this can sometimes backfire as both have the tendency to let their feelings get the better of them. (Thankfully though, Mercury is more likely to listen to Cole's orders than Amir is, and can sometimes even convince the latter to listen up.) Outside of work, Amir and Mercury both have a shared passion for music, so they often chase down live music nights in Hart City at jazz cafes or bars, and take the effort to disguise themselves through contacts or even a simple hood. Mercury likes to treat him like the older brother she never had, and vice versa.

Kei

Kura's childhood friend. Kei worries Mercury because of the destructive qualities he brings out in Cole - as the two essentially function as rivals, taking out their anger on each other in a very unhealthy way. As an individual, Mercury thinks he's clearly troubled, to say the least - but doesn't know much about him besides that. She worries about his impact on her squadmates, and would rather they forget about him - for better or for worse. Initially, Mercury thinks that he's far beyond redemption - similar to Elise - but as time goes on, she realizes that that is not the case - and that Kura is fairly sore about the issue and can't find her own happiness until he's either saved from his current situation or dealt with appropriately. Kei finds Mercury a hindrance when it comes to confrontations between him and Cole, as she often tries to mediate and prevent a conflict from occurring. His distaste for the Resistance and like organizations doesn't exactly help the situation, either. Though they haven't come in a conflict as of yet, Mercury would likely fight him if it jeopardized the lives of one of her squadmates, as she prizes them above all else as her makeshift family.
