In the briny depths exists a demon that can change its form at will and frequently does so to cause misery to sea-farers
All the demon realm's oceans are the domain of the Abyssal Daughter. It resides in its sunken keep at the bottom of the sea floor, a place completely devoid of sunlight.
The Daughter makes a game out of creating sea monsters and counting the ships they sunk. It welcomes anyone to challenge its creations and those who emerge victorious in battle are permitted to learn its secret to shapeshifting.
As the story goes, a hero managed to slay one of the Daughter's monsters that took the form of a colossal fish. The scales that fell off the dead fish became what the lesser demons know today as the Shelled Folk.
