About

From a young age Hot Shot was fascinated by fire, his first encounter with fire was a bushfire sparked by a lightning storm outside his then hometown of Fillydelphia. Hot Shot along with a few other young colts from the area snuck around town and found themselves a small hill to sit on and watch as the local fire department joined with the weather patrol in the area quickly got it under control. The pure power of flame was.. intense and the smell hung in the air as Hot Shot headed out into the plains to examine the damage. What he would come to find was pure devastation, in a matter of minutes the fire had cleared out a large portion of land leaving behind only the ashy remains that dusted his bright hooves.

Hot Shot was curious to see how fires could be made.. and how they could be controlled, he read as many books as he could get a hold of and as he came to learn more and more about fire it would eventually lead to the discovery of his cutie mark. He was still a young colt when he found his education on the subject to be vast and had mastered ways of creating fire from few or natural materials. Along with creating fires Hot Spot built up a bit of a tolerance for the pain of it burning at his legs when he stomped his small creations out with his hooves.

It was during one of these fire games that something went amiss.. the flames got far bigger then Hot Shot could handle on his own and before he knew it the fire had raged out of control from the plains and was spreading rapidly towards town. Despite the work of the fire brigade there were a number of homes lost though thankfully no one was terribly injured. The accident was a very eye opening experience for the youth who spent a number of months later volunteering to help repair the damage he'd done. Because of his recklessness in his youth he was denied the chance to train with the Fillydelphia Fire Brigade and instead moved on in hopes of joining another.

Hot Shot would eventually settle into Cloverly at the suggestion of one of Storm Thrasher's old contacts to get the approval to train for the brigade. As the days have progressed he has proved to have changed his ways and now uses his knowledge of fire to help to not only fight them, but to help prevent them. While his years on the fire brigade have still toughened him to burns he can still be overwhelmed by smoke if it gets to heavy. He has also accepted the idea of keeping a partner, usually a pegasus on the brigade, to helping keep larger fires under control or taking care of them while he's helping the civilians.

Notes

  • Hooves are often covered in ash from stomping out fires. Mane is styled into a mohawk and tail is kept cut short after catching it on fire multiple times.
  • The fire squad is a branch of the weather team focused on the controlling and putting out of fires.
  • The fire squad has until now only been made up of pegasi and unicorns, Hot Shot is the first earth pony to ask and pass his initial training and he is given a temporary and trial position on the team.
  • Since Hot Shot is on a trial run with the squad is he paired up with one of the pegasi as a partner.
  • Storm Thrasher decides to pair Dusk Hour with Hot Shot in hopes that the partnership will help Dusk learn about his need to be more aware of what is going on around him not only with the environment but with other ponies.
  • Hot Shot and Dusk Hour's training is rough, Hot Shot constantly calls out Dusk's recklessness and Dusk sabotages their training with hopes of getting Hot Shot disqualified. Refusing to let the pegasus win Hot Shot passes through each training scenario though because of Dusk's tampering it usually takes twice as long as it should.
  • Hot Shot's role is prevention of fire spreading through ground pounding (tearing up/digging up the ground so the fire doesn't have fuel to spread) and the safety and retrieval of victims who may be caught in the fire.
  • Dusk Hour's role is control/guidance of the fire (using his wing-power to move the fire/clear smoke, etc), the locating of victims trapped in the fire and the guidance of the ground unit (Hot Shot).
  • Despite Dusk Hour's interference Hot Shot won't report him or ask for a new partner for fear it will make him look bad and ultimately cost him his chance to join the squad permanently.
  • The forest fire will be the big turning point in their partnership. As Dusk Hour is being reckless he catches his wing and goes down but because of his tricks during training Hot Shot knows how the fire works pretty well and gets to his fallen partner in time to get him cleared before the fire over-takes him.
  • After the fire Dusk Hour is grounded with an injured wing, this close call ultimately leads Storm Thrasher and the other leaders to implement ground training as well as promoting Hot Shot to a full fledged squad pony and opening the ranks up to earth ponies.
  • While he's in recovery Dusk Hour still attends training, he takes ground training alongside Hot Shot as well as with other pegasus ponies who give him a hard time about the incident and his condition as an result. (However ALL pegasus ponies have to take training both as a ground pony and as a guiding pony so they can fill each role as needed).
  • While Dusk Hour is healing Hot Shot is still training but with another pegasus pony and when Dusk Hour gets back he gets paired with a new partner as well since Hot Shot and his new partner are working out well (much better than Dusk Hour and Hot Shot were during training because of Dusk Hour's screwing around).
  • Dusk Hour's new partner can be a pegasus which Dusk is struggling with because he's not motivated to try as hard, or another earth pony who proves to be far less skilled than Hot Shot was.
  • While they are with other partners Dusk Hour and Hot Shot are second-handly checking in on one another, asking each other's friends/mutual friends or Storm Thrasher.
  • Ultimately Dusk Hour snaps in defense of Hot Shot until Storm Thrasher steps in and mentions reuniting the partners and implementing more mixed teams (maybe Cotton gets stuck with an earth pony too. XDD).
