Trivia

● Hydrae was the previous leader of the tribe Ulas, Ursae, Eximius and Stingray lived in as children before Ursae eventually claimed the title. She came from a hard life; her parents didn't care much for her and they often left her to go partying and get drunk. She resorted to stealing food and supplies since her parents' lack of care for her became too much, and eventually she ran away from home. One night, she stole from a specific village and was caught. Taking pity on her, the older Stellae (sun) who found her took her in and cared for her. She became Hydrae's adoptive mother and gave her the care and love she never got from her own parents. Hydrae worked hard to right her wrongs but, despite her growth, the anger and pain inside her remained. She eventually decided to become a warrior, and training became her outlet. She did find some form of inner peace in the process.

● Hydrae meets Mirach many, many years after she is adopted by the tribe. Hydrae is a bit older than he is, maybe 5-6 years. The two didn't interact much since Hydrae was often away fighting in battles or training, but when Mirach reached adulthood he found himself crushing hard on them. Mirach actually interacted with them a couple of times as he was a healer and he cared for them when they were injured. Hydrae felt she didn't have time for romance, and, if we're being honest, she was a teeny tiny bit afraid of falling in love because of her parents, but sweet, persevering Mirach took his time. Mirach was doofy and affectionate and Hydrae couldn't help but fall for him.

● A few years into their relationship a bloodied Quasite stumbled into their camp and passes out. Mirach quickly did his best to treat their injuries, and upon waking up, was questioned by Hydrae. Quasites at this time were still feared, but not as much as they are in the current TDWSU timeline. The Quasite revealed their name, Reis (based off of RX J1131-1231) and explained that a group of Stellae from the city of Crater (where they previously lived) chased them out and attacked them in the process. Hydrae decided to let Reis stay under the condition that they help the tribe with whatever they needed. Reis became a close friend of Mirach as they helped gather herbs and medicines for him. In this process Reis and Mirach fell in love and Reis managed to worm themselves into Hydrae's heart as well. The three became a happy family unit and eventually were gifted two sons, Ulas and Ursae. Ulas was the son of Mirach and Hydrae while Ursae was the son of Hydrae and Reis. With Hydrae becoming chief, all seemed to be well in their world.

● Until, one day, Mirach falls ill.

● What initially started out as minor coughing spiraled into hacking up tar-like material and sometimes going into episodes similar to that of a seizure. Nothing Mirach had could cure him, and Hydrae and Reis did all they could to try to heal their husband, but to no avail. Mirach seems to be getting worse, and it's becoming obvious he wouldn't survive this.

● One night, Hydrae leaves the den to get some fresh air, and returns to find a panicked Reis and Mirach in another seizure-like episode. Reis is sobbing and in a half-activated Quasite state out of grief; this has been Mirach's longest episode and the worst of them so far. Black tar is oozing out of Mirach's mouth, ears and eyes. All of Hydrae's common sense goes out the window when she notices a dark mark on Mirach's chest, and it is then she realizes it's a Quasite mark. Hydrae doesn't say anything at first, and she calmly goes up to Mirach and decides to mercy kill him; snapping his neck, to Reis' horror. Hydrae then turns to them with an intense look of rage in their eyes, and Reis realizes what this means: Hydrae thinks they caused this. Reis pleads with their wife, insisting the mark appeared during the chaos, but Hydrae doesn't believe them. Hydrae flies into a fury and attacks Reis, mortally wounding them in the process. And when it's all over, Hydrae sits there and cries.

● After that point Hydrae's attitude on Quasites changed. Although Reis never caused Mirach's condition and would never dare think of harming him, the situation was too accusing (a certain malevolent spirit made sure of that). Hydrae's once affectionate but stern personality was burned and out of the ashes came a brutal, violent one. It's because of Mirach's death that Hydrae hammered it into her son's heads that Quasites were evil monsters and because Ursae was Reis' son, she treated him worse because his blood was 'tainted'. She gave the now-rare affection to Ulas and desired to make him her most successful son despite the fact he wanted no part in fighting. When Ulas gets his Quasite mark and is eventually banished, it is then that Hydrae turns their attention to Ursae. Ursae, craving any sort of relationship with his mother, took in anything she said, including her distaste for Quasites. As chief, Ursae develops a gang of Quasite-hunters and hopes to rid the world of them once and for all. Just as Mother wanted.
