Iestyn Aetiir's Links
A consummate playboy and Lothario who was used to stealing the hearts (and wallets) of those around him, it was a complete shock to Iestyn when this draconic maiden managed to resist his advances. A faint fancy was fanned into the flames of desire the more she denied him and, never one to shy away from trouble, Iestyn set upon the long path to winning Verysse’s favour through songs, poems and gifts that he may or may not have ‘borrowed’. While he adores Verysse and is committed wholeheartedly to their union, his old habits have been hard to break and still has something of an issue with wandering eyes and thieving fingers. He often gets jealous of any attention she gets or that she gives to others who aren’t him, and this spurs Iestyn into doing some very foolish things as if he needs to prove himself to her.
The music soothed the dragon's heart. Though she has had many lovers come and go, outliving them all, Verysse was taken by the bard's humble song. Though she swore herself to no woman or man, a dragon she would take a chance on. She is a bit disappointed that he is not a full blood like herself, and that he has no horns. She also knows about his thieving habits, but will always play dumb if asked about it. Verysse will always make sure he is comfortable in retreat and bakes plenty of pies for him.
Since this strange lad has dropped into his life and claimed to be his son, Iestyn has been trying his hardest to find a way to boot him out of it. He sees nothing of himself in the boy and is insistent to Verysse that he must be some sort of conman. Highly skeptical of Attus’ claim that he is Iestyn and Verysse’s son from the future, Attus also represents a deep fear for Iestyn: the fear of parenthood.
Attus is generally annoyed/frustrated that his father doesn't acknowledge him as a son. He keeps Iestyn's pocket watch with him as proof, but nothing seems good enough.
Iestyn and Ferry haven’t seen eye to eye for decades. Iestyn feels aggrieved that the van t’Veldes adopted an outsider into their cosy family, even though he was related to them by blood and they never lifted a finger to help him as a child. Despite that, he and Ferry had a good relationship as teens, with Iestyn even managing to convince Ferry to sign up for the military. What happened after, neither will say.
Ferry and Iestyn are cousins but, much like Iestyn’s relationship with the majority of the van t’Velde family, there is little love lost between them. They used to be very close when they were teenagers, but something happened while they were both serving during the Great War that ruined the relationship. Ferry refuses to speak about it or Iestyn, even to Camille.
Kami and Iestyn have always been at logger heads ever since they met, though that might be something to do with the fact that Kami’s job is to catch thieves like Iestyn and bring them to justice… or just to his boss. Iestyn thinks Kami is an incompetent but annoyingly persistent lizard who is always showing up at the most inconvenient time, usually when he’s trying to pull off a heist. However, since he has yet to be caught, he thinks of him more of an irritant than an actual threat.
Kami considers Iestyn his great rival and the one thief that has always just managed to slip out of his grasp time and time again. While he doesn’t agree with most of the things his employers command him to do, if any mission is given to him that involves the chance to catch up to or throw a spanner into Iestyn’s plans/works, Kami always participates with great gusto. He considers it a mark against his abilities that Iestyn is still out there free instead of locked up behind bars.
