Her peaceful life in the woods long since abandoned, Alder now lives the wild life of a pirate captain under her new name; Captain Adder. She spends her days terrorising the merchant ships of Aurora's oceans, stealing and murdering for her own amusement. Her family is now her crew, her loyalties lie to them and them alone. They sail from port to port, drinking heavily and leaving a wake of chaos behind them. Occasionally they will pick up a new member seeking to join their crew. The Snakebites are an all female pirate crew, many of which have been wronged by the world or the Kamishiba in it and seek to forge their own destinies under the guidance of a Captain not so dissimilar from themselves.

Alder is one half of what was once a pair. She lived a peaceful if not boring life with her twin and mother in the Kitsune Village. While Alder hated the village and all who lived in it, her family seemed not to mind so she tolerated it for them. That didn't mean she'd do so peacefully. She was the scourge of the village, often causing problems and pulling pranks for no reason other than pure malice.

Alder and her twin were raised without a father and their mother never mentioned him. This left Alder to speculate. As a child she came up with many theories as to who her father could be - her favourite was that her father was an Astral, off on their cosmic mission - the thought of strong blood in her veins gave her hope. But she could not have foreseen the truth when it came. Her father was not an Astral or even just an ordinary Kamishiba. Her father was a Lopdiemis. A disgusting vile creature. She refused to believe this truth - disowning her mother before running from the village in a fit of rage.

With no home and no family to return to, Alder wandered the land, eventually reaching the coastline of Sunset Seaside. There she encountered the store of the Witch Whisper and acquired a vial of the Heart Desire brew - which she used to free herself of the shackles of her gravity type to shed the crystal wing she inherited from her sire.

Now a Royal type, Alder quickly sought to leave Aurora Land all together. She joined the crew of the pirate captain Law, believing the ship could offer the freedom she desired. The recruitment pitch had been more than tempting and full of promises. But once she was actually out on the waves, the dream began to fall apart. Her new captain, Law, was a tyrant who treated his crew cruelly. Alder was no exception. Under his rule, Alder suffered just as much - if not more - than she did in Kitsune Village. Worked to the bone and half starved, many spirits were broken. But not Alder. Alder stewed in her anger and hatred, growing more and more bitter with each day that passed. Until finally she snapped. During a violent storm, she attacked her captain. He looked to his crew for help but none would move to save him. Nothing to lose, Alder fought like the devil and came out victorious, throwing Law into the crashing waves. The fight was not without losses of her own. Law had slashed through her eye and she knew there would be no way to save it.

With their captain defeated, the crew looked to the usurper, Alder, for guidance. The position of authority was not something Alder had sought, having only wished to free herself, but she saw a way to carve out the life she had desired. At first she did not officially take up the mantle of Captain, she gave orders to her crewmates as none were sure what to do. She allowed crewmates to leave as they wished and recruited new ones from taverns she visited. It wasn't until the original crew had all but been replaced that she finally accepted her role as Captain. With her 'new' authority, she renamed their ship to The Snakebite and gave herself a new name, one more befitting of who she had become. Captain Adder.
