BACKSTORY:

Growing up in the Hot Gateway (a dangerous, volcanic realm), Lazarus had a mostly happy childhood. His parents were rich and well-respected in the community, and Lazarus himself was admired for his charisma and good looks. One day, while sneaking out of the Hot Gateway, he caught a glimpse of an angel named Marissa and was immediately besotted. Since that moment, he's harboured an obsessive crush on Marissa.

When Marissa was sent down to Earth to become a Guardian Angel to the human girl Flora, Lazarus decided to follow her.

Lazarus is a typical young devil: mischievous and greedy with a talent for causing trouble. He rarely shows remorse for his actions and isn't the type to apologise unless forced to. Vain and arrogant, he cares a lot about his appearance and gets extremely smug if someone compliments him. One of his biggest flaws is his hypocrisy; he often insults other people for doing things that he does himself.

He's prone to getting crushes but has no idea how to appropriately court people, and usually tries to get his crush's attention by insulting and belittling them instead of being nice. He is used to people liking him because of his wealth or looks, to the point of seeming bewildered whenever somebody doesn't. Deep down, he craves meaningful relationships that he isn't sure how to attain.

 Lazarus is known for thinking outside the box and coming up with solutions to problems that, while creative, may not always be appropriate. He can be surprisingly loyal to those he actually cares about, even sacrificing himself to protect them, and has shown signs of clinginess.

DESIGN:

Lazarus has red skin, pointed ears and crimson eyes. His hair is black and curly, and he has a thin arrowhead tail. His right wing is badly torn from a past accident. His canine teeth are longer and sharper than a human's.

His outfits usually feature a lot of gold and black. He also has a silver ball necklace that he nearly always wears.

ABILITIES:

Lazarus can size-shift. He can switch between his true form - a human-sized figure - to his 'imp form', which is a six-inch-tall version of himself. In the Hot Gateway, he uses his true form. On Earth, he'll be forced into his imp form unless he makes a conscious effort to shift back.

Some of his other powers include summoning a trident and opening portals to travel to and from the Hot Gateway.

He is invisible to most humans, though some other animals can see him.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Marissa

Lazarus's crush. She doesn't reciprocate his feelings, which frustrates him greatly. He shows very little respect for her, often calling her names and making fun of her in a desperate bid to get her attention. They bicker a lot.

Flora

A human girl who lives on Earth. She is protected by Marissa, but Lazarus protects her too because he thinks it will make Marissa like him more. They have an odd relationship, initially hostile, but eventually developing a mutual respect for each other. Though he insists otherwise, Lazarus grows to care about Flora's safety.

TRIVIA:

- He has a fear of being laughed at. Being disliked is one thing, but being ridiculed is another, and he can't stand it when others laugh at him. It's not uncommon for him to have panic attacks when it happens or when thinking about it happening.

- Has a good singing voice, but having been mocked for singing before, he no longer does it around others.

- Likes using derogatory nicknames for people instead of their real names.

- Is ambidextrous.
