J.B. was born on Synth as the second child to a financially struggling couple. Their oldest son, Caleb, was already 4 years old. Caleb was the only one Jaiden could confide in due to his parent’s strict and hostile rules. Their mother was neglectful leaving Caleb to take care of Jaiden often, and their father was abusive and dangerous.

Caleb was kicked out of the household when he was 16 by their father. He despised his son for being gay, assaulting him with a bike chain up to the day he left. Jaiden was furious with their father leaving the night after Caleb and reuniting with him at the library. The two were only 16 and 12 years old and now they were completely dependant on themselves.

Though he wouldn’t admit it, Caleb was exhausting himself trying to take care of them both. He did deep web hack jobs to make enough money for a small apartment while DJing on the weekends. Jaiden wanted to follow in his brother’s footsteps, learning to mix and record tracks as well as playing them. While they made very little money the two were happier than they were at their old home.Five years later Jaiden was selling mix tapes while Caleb had his first long term relationship in years. Things were going well for the first time in their lives.

Eventually, Caleb’s digital crimes were catching up to him. A hacking operation was busted with his name among the group. Jaiden was terrified they were going to lose the little bit of comfort they created for themselves. It became too much for Caleb, giving him a nervous breakdown at his last DJ job.

Jaiden was devastated. His brother was involuntarily committed to a mental health facility until he was no longer at risk of hurting himself or others. He’d visit every day, keeping himself afloat in between. He barely slept and fed into an energy drink addiction to stay awake. He thought things were getting better. That’s when Synth’s power grid went down.

J.B. got the call that would change his life. His brother committed suicide during the black out leaving both J.B. and his boyfriend alone. J.B. snapped, wrecking their old apartment and going into hiding. While off the grid he assumed his brother’s old online persona, began experimenting with digital drugs, and took off as an electronic musician.

In the next year J.B.’s lifestyle changed rapidly. He lost 120 pounds, survived on energy drinks and chips, and moved toward cybernetic enhancements for his body. He was integrating his life with his brother’s identity and the technology that made it possible. His self worth became tied to his iconic persona leaving very little left of who he once was.

After years of adapting himself to his idealist image, J.B. was a lead performer at a cyberpunk nightclub. He had legions of fans that only knew of him as the shadow in the booth. The club is where he spotted his future boyfriend Klaus, currently known to J.B. as “Spyderbyte” the notorious hacker criminal plaguing the deep web. He decided to assert his dominance by hacking Klaus’ phone, sending him insulting messages. Klaus took this as a challenge, wrecking J.B.’s show and earning his ire as well as his respect.

J.B. and Klaus became closer over time. The two worked together on multiple hacking projects easily accessible by the duo. For the first time in years J.B. didn’t feel like he was alone. That didn’t stop J.B.’s superiority complex although. For the first year and a half of knowing Klaus, he treated him like lesser for his appearance and dorkish nature.

The harassment became worst overtime until Klaus finally told him off. He wasn’t going to sit by and let J.B. tear down every bit of self confidence he had. He knew he was worth more than that, leaving J.B. alone once more. This time it was clear to J.B. that this was his fault and not just another accident.

J.B. attempted to track Klaus down, taking the time to scour the places they used to hang out. Finally, they reunited in the alley behind the club J.B. frequented. He opened up to Klaus, apologizing profusely, realizing that he’d taken out his own self esteem and image issues on someone he thought wouldn’t leave him. While Klaus accepted his apology, J.B. would be on thin ice for a while.

After proving he was trying to better himself, J.B. and Klaus began dating. The confession was sparked during J.B.’s apology, but they thought better to act on it when they were both in the right mindset. Their relationship blossomed out of the mutual respect they’d obtained for each other. J.B. even went as far as quitting a show at his favorite club after they rejected Klaus’ admission. Klaus himself wanted to introduce J.B. to his family.After five years of dating, the two finally decided to get engaged.

Klaus

Klaus is the love of J.B.'s life. Ever since the two met he's admired just how confident and charming Klaus can be. While J.B. slips up sometimes, his boyfriend will always be there to help him get back up again.

Caleb

The only family J.B.'s ever cared about. Upset that he was left alone, but swears vengence on everyone that took part in his death.

Val

Klaus' sister and a bit of a pain. She can be annoying and clingy at times, but J.B. knows that she looks up to her brother just like he did his own.

Eloise

[ Mom-in-Law ]

Klaus' mom didn't like him much at first due to his treatment of Klaus, but over time the two have come to know eachother better. Eloise has become the mother that was never there for him.

Cordell

[ Klaus' Dad ]

Klaus' father. Even though Klaus thinks he's changed, J.B. will never care for him after the hell he put Klaus through in his childhood.

Clara

[ Ex-Friend ]

The two met early on into J.B.'s hacking career. She assumed he was his brother after J.B. adopted his online persona. She dropped their friendship when she joined up with a hacktivist group.

Nigel

[ Clara's Partner ]

Doesn't want anything to do with J.B. and if he ever even breathes near Clara she'll knock his teeth out.
