age 0-11:
- raised by a single mom who had a really bad drinking problem and who cycled between basically neglect and controlling paranoia
- twin sibling (laine) got recruited by a boarding school when they were 10, got out of that shit hole
- started withdrawing even more after that
- dunes befriended them though

age 12-15
- one of mom's boyfriends ended up taking them in after seeing how badly their mom treated them
- pseudo-foster-dad raped raine while black out drunk one night (he doesn't remember, raine does) 
- raine never brought it up, it started happening more often (age 13-15)
- still feels indebted to him because "it has to be better than it was before"
- dunes moved away soon

age 16-18
- became friends with mel and briar
- laine's school shut down, moved back into town (they live in different places though - laine isn't aware of raine's situation)
- dunes got kicked out of his school and transferred back
- has good friends at school at least haha haha ah ahaha ha
- starts working at a auto repair shop part time
- spends as much time out of the house as possible, sleeps over at various friends houses a lot

age 19-23
- finally moves out, lives in an apartment with dunes
- still working at the auto repair shop
- spends spare time messing with scrap material
