James, or Nox to his friends, was born a second generation Scottish-American in 1916 and drafted in 1942. After dying on the battlefield in World War II, his journey to learn to deal with his new state of undeath was swift—there isn't much time to mourn yourself when bullets are still flying around you. After that, he spent some time in a top secret special forces military unit, honing his new power for use in war.
But that was then. In the modern day, there's no love lost between him and the military complex; he would spit on the grave of everyone he served under, if he could. These days, he spends his time fighting the establishment and, ironically, more Nazis, with his allies in the Deadmen Gang, which he co-founded. While he still retains a slight fondness for guns, he much prefers the intimacy of melee combat, taking bats and brass knuckles as his weapons of choice. Since leaving the military, he's been active in the protest scene. His highest priority is helping people, and he won't hesitate to use his unkillable body as a shield.
In his day-to-day life, James is much more excitable than he lets on. He loves to try new things, and he's a notoriously early riser who's been known to preach a bit about getting the most out of the day. Although not a bleeding heart, he's very empathetic—to a point. Once he's fed up, it's rare he'll give you another chance. The nickname "Nox" comes from a screen name he adopted in the mid-90's.
