Brent Ferraro (Pirate AU)

Brent used to be the captain's favorite, being romantically involved together. Brent is also close friends with Octavius, another member of the crew. They may have flirted a bit, but nothing came of it. Perhaps related to Octavius or maybe just by the cause of another incident, the captain is very jealous, greedy, and becomes enraged at the thought of Brent having anyone else.

The captain punishes Brent by chopping off his hand. Ouch! Not long after, Octavius leads a group of shipmates to mutiny, and becomes the new captain. Brent is... Proud of him. Thankful? Octavius deserves to be captain and he'll do an amazing job, Brent knows that. But he's also scared and traumatized, and their friendship falters.

During his recovery, Brent meets a mermaid and invites her up onto the ship. :) Talking to her, an outsider, especially with her very literal and black & white way of thinking sometimes is what really helps ease Brent into opening up and feeling comfortable again after the trauma. He reconciles with Octavius after a while, thankfully.
